It takes a lot longer to put something together that is well thought out and works under any reasonable driving condition than it does to just slap something together for show-only.

Hofstadter's Law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.

And speaking of costs,,, for those that may be interested,,, attached below is the costs so far. We're at $7,129.47. Please note I may have missed a few items but if so not many. As there still is some larger ticket items left,, looks like $8K (not $6500) might be a better estimate when all is said and done.

Doing some research today,,,, rear gears. Way back when (see page 3 lol) I did research on the transmission ratios,,, FRS versus the Camaro MV5.

The Camaro setup is quite a bit different than the FRS. 1st gear (4.48),, and to an extent 2nd (2.58) in the Camaro is way more than needed. Couple that with the fact the Camaro had a 3.27 rear end ratio and a 2" taller tire,,, my current rear gear will be way out of wack.

If I'm reading the other threads correctly, Weir Performance has a 3.58 gear that'll get me pretty close. With a max speed just below the FRS in 1st and 2nd,,, it should hit it pretty hard off the line,,, but cruise well at 75MPH.

First pic is stock running gear on left,, on the right V6 Camaro running gear and 3.58 rear gear. Second pic is V6 Camaro running gear and stock 4.10 rear end.

Not sure what ratios are availble for the stock rear end but 3.58 looks like it gets you to a good place. That Camaro transmission has some wide gear splits doesn’t it?

I reached out to Weir to see what the options are. Frankly something numerically lower (I.E. 3.2x) might even be better. The Camaro trans ratios are a bit strange. I guess getting the weight of the Camaro moving in 1st and 2nd leads to those ratios.

Should of gotten the CTS transmission....

I like how 3.58 looks on paper compared to taller and shorter gears...I think if you switch to a gear numerically lower than the 3.58, your higher speed performance will suffer. I’m thinking if it were me, I’d leave the 4.10 in place until you’ve had a chance to drive it and then decide where the performance is lacking....also, instead of changing the diff maybe you look harder at switching to that other transmission if the ratios are an improvement.

If you could take gears 1, 2 and 3 from the FRS, and combine them with 4, 5 and 6 of the Camaro 'box, you'd be good with the stock 4.10s. Or you could make a less drastic change to 3.73, and have the V6 turning a little more relaxed speed...

EDIT: Of course, this is all in Imaginationland...lol

That could be done! It will be the frs gear box. The 4, 5 and 6 gears are almost identical on both.

True curiosity, not trying to be a troll.

Why not to use the OEM gear box?

I have read completely and is one of the best swap treads, as recorded and details. About engine selection I’m in! Reliable, strong, tons replacement parts, good prices.
