If the paint hasn't had time to cure, yes you should wait (like when getting paint work done after an accident). However, it takes these cars so long to get here that the paint will be well cured even if you pick up your car the minute it hits the dealership.

Older cars you didn't want to wax right away because of something with the paint needing to cure in the air.

If the dealership did happen to wax your car it would not have been that great of a job traditionally.

^This...

OP-By the way, dealerships usually do a piss poor job of detailing, so don't hesitate to detail your car the CORRECT way after you drive off the lot.

Definitely. Check the production date on your car, it's probably several months old by now. Though waiting a few months to wax a totally freshly painted car from a body shop is probably very good advice.

It's sweaty and ready, go go go. Usually have to wait 6 weeks after a paint job but your looking at 3 months from production to customer pick up at least. Hate Waxing? Look into Opti Coat, it's a wax substitute that last for a VERY long time.
