50:1 ratio and you lose 2 octane.

Yes, but 2 oz per 10 gallons is 640:1.

Kinda doubt that. That'd make it drop to 81 octane, and that isn't what's happening here.

Hmm... .5oz/gallon = 6oz/12 gallon's would result in a 10 point reduction.
I added 3oz last tank full trying to silence the crickets. which would equate to about a 4 pt drop for the tank. We only have 91 octane here, so I may be neutering the car with 87! I have been logging more knock recently (thought it was temperature related), but this may be what is really happening. Guess I better become friendly with the crickets! |

My crickets come and go. Usually they are there after I've been doing hard fuel-draining pulls or I'm getting low on gas. Otherwise... nope.

I thought 2stroke mixed gas had greater knock resistance ?
OK well ive been on 91 Vpower using a 1 / 10th bottle of redline fuel additve which is oily and very much like 2 stroke oil in everytank. and i must say the crickets are very very un noticeable now, when the pump cycles as it used to on idle i can hear it lets say on a scale of 1-10 before the noise was about 3-10 on idle at all times, and when the pump kicked in and cycled it was about 7-10 that was with 94 chevron. Now with the mix im running it is a 1-10 on idle and a 4-10 when it cycles. about as noticeable as the valvetrain noise. its now a normal sound and not distinctive or overly noticable , i would exspect a sound like this from and DI engine |

Im testing the VP Octanium and it does not silence or increase cricket noise. it does however effect the octane rating as exspected, with the 91 vpower and half a bottle it runs a 94 tune smoothly , so im not increasing timing to see its limits .

A few turbo rotary guys premix with marvel mystery oil instead of 2 stroke. It has less of an impact on octane. I can't for the life of me remember who did the digging, but he had an engineer from MMO on the horn and they banged out the specifics. A few engines were built to test using MMO as opposed to premixing and tear downs were visually impressive. The engines that ran MMO instead of 2 cycle oil were significantly cleaner. I'm going to grab a bottle today to see if it helps with my crickets. I still have a case of Idemitsu premix from my old Rx7 race car that I plan on trying as well. However, I plan to only use a little bit. Our cars will knock on plain old crappy Cali 91...

Even if the TCW3 was rated at "1 Octane" then at a 1:640 ratio it would reduce your 91 octane fuel to 90.86 octane. I have to believe (because I googled the shit out of it and couldn't find anything) that a TCW3 oil, which is designed to be combusted, has an octane rating higher than "1".
1:640 is a 1oz/5gallon ratio. Some will say that even that is unnecessary and a 1:768 or 1:896 ratio works just fine. At that point, there's almost no measurable change in octane.. My 100k mile Ford E150 loved the hell out of this stuff, however for my FRS I'm going to run less than 1oz/5gallon, probably just 1oz/tank if that keeps the crickets away. Right now I'm on tank #2 of a 1:640 dilution.

When I first read about about using the 2 stroke for HPFP it was for my BMW 135i, and they recommended using a cap full per tank.

I have used Protek-R from Pettit Racing. It also makes the crickets subside. I suspect it TCW3 mixed with Marvel's Mystery Oil.

I was putting in Valvoline 2 Cycle TC-W3 and it seemed to help a little but after the latest TSB fix(about 2 years ago) my crickets are completely gone. I've used only Chevron 93 since and still good.
