The Swedish trackday 86
Hi folks.
I've been lurking here for a while now and figured it's time to make an appearance. I drive a 2013 GT86 (Yes, not an FR-S) since a little while back, in pursuit of a better track experience. My name is Jonathan and I live in Stockholm, Sweden, where it's 3 hours to the nearest proper track. EDIT: I'll add a list of the stuff I've put on here: - Öhlins R&T w/ 80N/mm springs - Essex AP Sprint 299mm BBK front - Stainless steel brake lines f & r - Raceseng CasCam plates front - HKS EL header - HKS Hi-Power Spec L catback - HKS Airfilter - HKS Oil cooler - HKS GT2 supercharger (w/ 41mm restrictor) - Deuschwerks 65cc fuelpump - Beatrush master cylinder brace - Ecutech custom tune Also running Nankang AR-1 tyres in 245/40r17 on JR SL01 alloys, and PFC-01 brake pads. A few years ago I bought my first proper sportscar (or well, GT-car): I drove this for a year, went down to Croatia (7000km roundtrip) and eventually actually went around the track with it. Naturally, it's well balanced with a fantastic engine, but it's proper heavy. Torque converter auto doesn't add to the racing feel and the fear of getting damage deducts from the fun factor. Thus I now have a more reasonable daily (bmw 325i e91) and a track toy. So since everyone who has a toyobaru ft86something loves modifying it, here's what I've been doing I started with the headers, to get a little boost in power. I went for equal length ones since I further down the line planned on boosting it and thought that unequal load on the cylinders would be a bad idea. I miss the subaru rumble but that's not the purpose of the car. Or so I tell myself. Good long day in the sun with some friends resulted in HKS EL headers being mounted, along with an EcuTek remap for some torque dip removal: I'm trying to get these guys to track their cars as well.. New headers look amazing compared to the old catted stock system! Not that I'll ever see them Next up, I swapped the springs for.. well pretty much tein-coloured stock springs. Mistake, I must admit, to not research properly and just trust the shop. Doing this in my company parking garage is not ideal, but I had good company (the guy miata owner from before). After bringing the car to the track I also noticed that I couldn't quite hear the engine properly, so I had to look at the tachometer way too often. HKS Hi-power spec L exhaust did a good job eliminating that issue (the drone around 3k is awful): After my next proper trackday I found the limit of my stock brakes and pads (no surprise there, just hoped it'd be a little further off). I got to ride along in a TRD'ish friend with the Essex AP sprint kit and some proper tyres, and man what an experience. Safe to say, I ordered the same kit from CSG a few days ago. I've also got some new lighter and wider alloys to house my 'r-tyres' (Nankang AR-1 245/40r17), coilovers from Öhlins (supporting the local industry) and another lapse of idiocy that I'll post about in the days to come. Next level idiocy:
Dyno graph to come. I've installed an HKS oilcooler, DW65 fuelpump and a HKS GT2 (v2) supercharger kit with a 41mm restrictor. Last edited by Cressell; 07-02-2021 at 12:42 AM. |

Hello Cressell, nice toy there!
I like the "roadkill" style installation there... Will you be running e85 or petrol? |

Petrol for now, the fuel quality here is good so I'm in the 300-310whp range with the 41mm restrictor. Also, any more power and I'll be too scared for my rods to drive it properly - my next project will be to build an engine suitable for more power. |

Thanks! Glad to see someone actually reading this
Brakes are now installed, with new pads all around (PFC-01) and proper brake lines in the rear as well. Flushed with new brake fluid and added a master cylinder brace - pedal feel is good but the brakes won't feel grippy until I've done the bed-in procedure properly. Actually think it looks quite alright! Upon installing the coilovers I ended up 29mm down in the front, 25mm in the rear. No camber rear, and a whopping 0,7 deg POSITIVE camber up front. Result: Safe to say, I've ordered camber plates to get myself a nice -2,5 degrees or so in the front, and camber bolts for some -1,5 deg in the rear. |

It's strange though - I thought having lowered 25mm that I should definitely have some negative camber. |
