The nuSupra just makes me appreciate my FRS even more. Sure it's slow but it was also half the price of the Supra and it doesn't seem like you are getting twice the car unfortunately.

That’s true of almost every more-expensive-car. Get into a Ferrari or Lamborghini and ask yourself are these cars worth 10x the 86. Get into a Bugatti and ask if it is worth 100x the 86. I’ll burst everyone’s bubble—they’re not.

With an exotic car you're also paying for the badge/prestige. With a 50k Toyota I would hope that it punches above it's class, but I'm not sure if that's the case. I guess I'm just left wondering who all is going to cough up the cash for one of these (new or used). I love Toyota and Japanese cars in general but I don't think I'd ever really desire a Mkv now or in the future.

And the Supra badge is worth nothing?

I’m just not a fan of the looks, or it would be higher on my list. Admittedly, I would have to drive one to know for sure if it was right for me, but the stats speak for themselves. There is plenty of value there. From the factory, the hp/tq is about doubt what the 86’s is, and simple mods like a downpipe, exhaust, tune and E85 will net huge gains. That was what the Supra was all about. I’m not saying there aren’t better cars, but the Supra is definitely worth the money.

In this case, in my opinion, it has no value.

Would you think a Ferrari badge was worth much slapped on an 86, even if it was by the Ferrari factory with a few tweaks to make it more "Ferrari like"?

The badge, to have value or worth, has to still meet the standards set by its predecessors to retain it's value. Otherwise, the badge is worth exactly what it costs to make and nothing else.

I have no issue with what Toyota has done with BMW, but it shouldn't have been called "Supra". It should have had a new name and Toyota should have reserved the Supra badge for a car they built themselves, even if that meant it was never used again.

The badge doesn't make the car and the car doesn't make the badge. Marketing people do.
I have very little doubt that if the Initial D anime did not exist we would all be driving the new Celica right now. Other than at some spiritual level the new 86 is about as far away from the Corolla Levin/Trueno as a car can be. So, even that name is false to a large degree.

Not as much when it's made in Austria.

I never personally thought of the 86 as a successor to anything, and when I did find out about the supposed connections it was so vaguely loose I always considered it just marketing. I really knew nothing about the whole "eight six" legacy tied to it until well after signing up to buy the car. I definitely knew nothing about Initial D until this forum. There is no real family history there. It's more like an adopted member of the family.

I've always thought the 86, if it was related to anything, was something Nissan should have built as a modern day 240Z. That's what it reminds me of more than anything.

I agree of what they should have done, but disagree that the Supra badge doesn't have value. Ford put the Mustang badge on an electric SUV because the Mustang badge has value. Similarly, the Supra badge will carry weight with many buyers.

The parts are made from all over the world. Cars are often assembled in other parts of the world. The engines likely come from Germany. If you meant designed then it was designed in Germany and Japan--not Austria; it was just assembled there.

It's really a modern S13 Silvia/240SX. Sadly there is no modern 240Z...

Well, in the sense that there are those who find value it it, I guess I agree with you, Neither the Supra nor the misguided Mustang move by Ford provides any value for me, but then again I'm not really brand loyal with much of anything. I'm a price/benefit whore when it gets right down to it.

My wife loves Mustangs, but she has zero interest in an electric crossover. Having a pony on it makes her even less interested in it.
