Fury, 10-series revival DD | AutoX
I'm Drake, I study Digital Science at Kent State, and I drive a boosted 10-series FRS.
Suppose now is a good time as ever to start the build journal. This is Fury, my daily-driven, boosted, 10-series, FR-S. I bought her January 7th '18, with 56,000mi. and a lot of mods already done: SBD 400x Turbo (7.5lbs)I was looking for an 86 over winter break last year and this one happened to be 3 hours away, my only leads on the car? It was previously registered in Maryland, repod, and the kit was probably installed at Moto-East, from an old blog post about an SBD install on a 10-series. I landed a job for the coming semester and decided to pull the trigger. Drove down to look at the car, inspecting everything with a fine lens to spot any failures, and mistakes. After test driving and inspecting the car for almost an hour, I decided to sign the papers on the possibly the biggest used car gamble ever. Not to be too cliche but the rest is pretty much history, over the past year I've put nearly 20k on the pavement and only really done standard maintenance. Now I'm looking to start pushing the envelope and making Fury, more my car, not just something I found. Incoming mods include: Varis Arising II front bumper (needs paint) I am part of Kent State University Car Club (KSUCC), and spend a bit of my free time trying to AutoX. Last season was my first ever with only 2 events, this year I'm trying to make it monthly. I'm really excited to start documenting the build, and of course making this a little cleaner. Pointers are welcome. Instagram: @FRS_Drake I do post more often over there, but I want to make a more official journal here. Last edited by Drake_93; 02-09-2019 at 12:36 AM. |

Late Night Update
So, the trunk swap fell through. But, the polar vortex cancelled our classes, and I'm fortunate enough to know someone with a heated-ish garage. (when the windchill is -40, is anything really heated?) So we spent the whole day working on our cars and doing oil changes As it would turn out, the TRD deck spoiler was secured with rather overkill methods. 6 bolts, and about a meter of 3M adhesive tape. Removing the bolts was relatively easy, the tape was an enormous PITA that took nearly 3 hours. We went through methods, rags, razors and eventually settled using brake cleaner. I didn't really take a lot of photos of the process as it was really grueling, annoying, and still cold. But, we got through it. Fortunately enough, this Nur Spec wing actually bolts up to the two outer holes from the TRD spoiler. We did a little test fit and ran with it. Originally we were just going for it, trying to see where we'd end up with the spoiler off of Fury. I was totally planning on just covering the holes and then redrilling the trunk at a later date. Well, the bolts lined up so we went for it. I ran out to grab some 3M tape and we moved the car around to set the trunk and wing in front of the heater. After prepping the surfaces and waiting for everything to heat up, we ran a few pieces of tape on the deck plate of the wing and mounted it up. As for the holes, they're currently covered with some electrical tape.... I'm scheduling the front bumper work soon and I'll have the trunk welded and painted as well. And of course, she's naturally already dirty as all hell in this lovely climate. Last edited by Drake_93; 02-09-2019 at 12:37 AM. |

That looks really nice. Is that the stock ride height for the 10 Series? If so I am guessing the 10 Series comes with the TRD springs? I see you list spacers but nothing about springs.
BTW, all but your very first image have broken links. Last edited by ermax; 02-07-2019 at 09:35 AM. |

Aw crap, thank you for saying something. I'll fix the links tonight. The springs are Swift R specs. 4.4k -1.1" in the front 5.3k -1" in the rear.

The guy is amazing and the setup / availability of the build just makes the platform shine. I can't praise these things enough in that aspect. I'll be in SM, but I've seen some SSC cars put down seriously ridiculous times. |
