Any updates on the new bypass valve? I'm holding off purchase until this is resolved.

Delicious is the only source of this information. Edelbrock did not claim to be working on a new one when I talked to them.

I've yet to confirm with Edelbrock. Nothing on their site or in their site's forums. |

This is interesting and good news if true. I'm installing mine soon and would rather just get the upgraded valve now.

Only took me a week or so but I got through this whole forum. It was good to see how helpful delicious, Edelbrock, and the rest of the community has been with people's problems. I'll be looking into getting one come spring time and I cannot wait

Has anyone found a stronger belt tensioner or do you guys just use stock? My belt is jumping off with a quick stab of the throttle now.

I would check the alignment. There is a few mm of slop in the holes for the manifold, that could cause issues. I measured the distance between the first valley and the outer edge of the SC pulley with a micrometer and then did the same on the crank pulley. Added shims to make them equivalent and then laid a straight edge across both pulley faces and used that to determine where to have the manifold before bolting it down.

Upgraded Bypass Actuator Kit
I noticed a few people were asking about an upgraded bypass actuator. I generally don't participate in forums, but this one thread has provided some great reading information for me when I was planning my supercharged project, so I thought I would provide some info back as a return courtesy.
Regarding the upgraded bypass, I can confirm an upgrade kit exists with a significantly larger actuator. I can confirm it because I have one on my car, a '17 86 AT, and have been running it without issue for the last few months. I've gone from sea level to 10,000ft elevation in deep snow and freezing temperatures several times, and running on a remarkable Delicious Tune (V28.5), the car has been fantastic. Obviously, I don't have any long term data since I've only had the kit on a few months and about 3000 miles. I don't work for Edelbrock, nor do I speak for them, but they did give me permission to share this upgrade kit information with you to help clear up confusion. If you have questions about the kit, I really recommend you contact Edelbrock directly through their tech line. Edelbrocks upgraded bypass actuator kit part number is 15001 and it is available now. I was also provided the instructions for the kit, which I will post later tonight. Again, I have no affiliations with Edelbrock, I am just an 86 owner passing along information. Thanks. *Updated to add installation instructions from Edelbrock which should now be attached (if I uploaded it correctly). Last edited by Z06ZN6; 03-05-2020 at 11:40 PM. |

Yeah, mine was off the engine already. Thankfully this SC isn't that hard to remove and install. It's definitely a bit heavy but I was able to get it on and off myself, three times during the installation, and I'm only 5'6 150lbs. A couple things that I found to be helpful for installation are:
1.) I use lots of zip ties to pull the engine wiring harnesses and connectors completely clear of a straight, top-down SC installation path. The SC needs to be seated on the engine already aligned to the mounting holes to avoid any need for further lateral movement once down. Bolt it down right after that. Sliding the seated SC on the engine can pull the gaskets out of SC gasket groove and damage them which won't be discovered until you start the car and find a vacuum leak. This is really easy to happen on this kit due to the weight of the SC. The Edelbrock SC instructions recommend sliding the SC back and forth to aid in subsequent installation steps, but I personally found this to be not the best recommendation. 2.) I put a few spots of sticky dielectric grease in the straight sections of the empty gasket groove before loading the gasket. This will help retain the gasket when it's hanging upside down for SC installation. The groove design should really employ some positive retention features for the gasket given how critical it is to stay installed. |

Finally an upgrade kit! I'm planning on installing the JR Dual rad soon, might as well do the upgrade for the valve whilst I'm dropping coolant everywhere. Sent an e-mail to support at Edelbrock, hoping I can get my hand on that kit soon enough!

I 've bought a lot of Edelbrock stuff in the past and they are a very good company with great customer service, but like anything, you need to get the right person who has the knowledge to get results. That person at Edelbrock is Tony Avina. Not only is a he a great guy, but he's the lead supercharger tech at Edelbrock. He'll probably kill me for saying this because I know he's very busy, but if you call, I recommend you just ask for him directly or leave him a message. Good luck! Now it's back out to the garage for me to finish installing a DT flex fuel kit.... |

seems like an awfully complicated pain in the ass to install that new BV.
