not entirely wrong though. just in the electrical industry, new regulations now require $40-60 arc fault breakers instead of the $5 breakers that used to be required. and that's just one example with an extreme cost difference.

used to be that framing was perfectly fine with 2x4's everywhere. but more and more, outside walls need to now be 2x6-2x8 minimum now for insulation/energy efficiency. that cost has to come from somewhere.

Definitely not denying that regulations are part of it but not some of the 10% to 40% a year some folks are seeing. That's all market factors.

After spending some time offering my little knowledge to some questions on the FT86 Enthusiast pages on social media, I realized how lazy newer generations are when it comes to research. I even linked the forums one day, and the responses were mixed, mostly good, but some of the responses were that forums are "Hard to follow, complicated, archaic, outdated". People spend tons of hours of research and work to share their knowledge on the forums, there's a search option,we have technical topics for different components, classifieds, just put in the effort. People rather ask a bunch of keyboard warriors on social media or watch a random kid on youtube mess with his car. Even when I was about to install something as simple as a drop-in filter, I researched, became a member of the forum, asked around, and I've learned a lot literally from just sitting and reading.

It all started when some guy said that he "tuned" his vehicle, but wasn't sure what type of fuel to use, or what specific tune he had. Didn't know if either to use 85 or 93, so he just used both at random times and that his car wouldn't make it past 3K RPM.

I just lost it......

It's not really anything new, social media and the Internet just shines a light on it a little brighter.

Going back as far as I can remember, it was easy to be the smartest person in the room on a subject. Typically, all you had to do was be the one guy that read the manual.

This shit is why I don't bother asking for help or advice on anything in the Facebook group I'm in. When I do, people post stupid or useless responses. As for the younger gen kids, I think their 'schtick' is more of Instagram and Youtube. They will learn the resources at some point. When I first tried to "modify" my 95 Mitsubishi Eclipse the place I looked were CARiD lol. Just sit back and enjoy the cringe.

Oh man, I member..... Filling the cart with all these parts for my POS Mazda 3 2.0, then delete the cart and cry myself to sleep because I couldn't afford them or it wasn't realistically possible to install them.

Now I do the same on the BRZ, this time I'm just broke.

LMAO yep same! Now what I do is make a spreadsheet on Google Docs. It's kind of fun but yeah once I tally up the total cost and realize how impossible it is to afford I shed a tear.

Makes me think, I'm about to dump close to $1500 on this PC build, that could've easily gotten me new wheels, or a better set of tires, or start my SC fund... I just didn't know what to do with my hands once the winter hit and working outside was a no-go.

How about the person who answers by doing a cut and paste from another website, Wiki or someone's personal blog and doesn't include a link or give credit to the source?
Instead, they pass it off as there own hard earned knowledge.
It's happened to me recently on Farcebook and I'm undecided as to whether I should call them out or just leave it alone.

Reading the manual is cheating. You are supposed to fuck it up yourself first before consulting the manual.
