Speaking of things hurting ....... brings to mind a dirt bike riding story.

Waaay back-in-the-day, I used to ride a dirt bike. Not on a track, but out in the wilderness of California.

It was a sunny, warm, Saturday morning in July, about 0600 when my door bell rang. Yep, it was two of my dirt bike riding buddies all suited up along with their dirt bikes. We had an appointment to go riding down at the old New Idria mine location on about 8,000 acres of BLM land in San Benito County, about 30 miles NE of King City. Years later, after inhaling much dust from those hills, that the area was declared an EPA superfund site (mercury). See ...... I wasn't born retarded ....

Now that sounds all fine and dandy, however, the night before we had a party at our house ....... the last guests left about 0430. Needless to say, I was wasted.

I had forgotten all about the dirt riding date ...... I couldn't back out because I was the only one with a pickup truck to get us down there! So, I suited up, mixed up a mason jar full of vodka (with a splash of bloody Mary mix) and off we went to the badlands.

As long as I stayed drunk, all was OK, but about late morning I ran out of vodka and at about 1400 hrs, I started to have a big time hangover. Now, it was HOT and my head was sweating and pounding inside that helmet and the dirt bike was bouncing all over the place.

Around 1600 hrs, I told the guys that I just couldn't do this anymore ...... ....... so, we headed home.

THE END

Yep, right again, Barstow is hardly considered civilization.

However, "civilization" is relative depending where you are "coming from" ..... like from in the middle of a desert ......

Went to an Uber driver meeting today. Uber gave me a hockey puck signed by some of the star Penguins.

Just a day after my birthday!

Or to be more optimistic about it, you survived another year!

Not much to tell. And I'm terrible at telling stories anyway. Best leave that bit to professionals like yourself.

Oh, allow me to get you started ........

It was a hot afternoon in August when I saw the sign for Barstow and pulled off of I-15. I was just too damn sleepy to drive any further. I spotted this motel and it looked like they should have a vacancy. The woman in the office seemed friendly enough, almost too friendly ...............

OK, @Spuds , take er on from here ..........

I love it when a company takes you out for a nice dinner. When my wife was an executive assistant to some venture capital guys in Menlo Park they took us to some incredible restaurants.

I however work for the Gubment. The only thing we can do is a pot luck at lunch. Sucks.
