BRZ ownership costs

It looks like I will be making a big move from Iowa, USA to the Lincolnshire, UK.
I've check a few shipping estimates to bring my BRZ and it will cost about $1500-$2000 to be shipped to Liverpool. What type of costs am I looking at when I get there, registration, MOT, etc. for a USDM motor vehicle. I am doing this as a civilian, as I just retired from the military yesterday. Any info would be very welcome.

The procedures to import/register a car are here https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicle...outside-the-eu

The Customs Notice here http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsP...yType=document
should be more reliable as to getting the car into the UK.

The first link addresses getting the car "road legal" in the UK and getting a registration number. It looks simple BUT beware the UK Government pushes "joined up government" and that can result in the situation above where the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency are talking about Customs procedures that have been implemented by HM Revenue and Customs. You now have two versions about import procedures to which you have to now add the European Union who set out and change Customs procedures that have to be converted into UK law by HMRC not the DVLA.

No doubt I'll be corrected but I would imagine that the specification of an EU type approved LHD BRZ will be identical to the US model with regard to emission controls, seat belts, brakes, suspension and the major issue is Xenon headlights and how the dip is swapped to the left. Bulbs will also need to be changed - white side lights and amber turn lights. Xenon lights must have automatic levellers and washers.

There's another body you may run into VOSA Vehicle and Operator Standards Agency, who are responsible for vehicle inspections - I was surprised that I didn't see anything about them inspecting the converted car.

Another example of all these departments having their own rules:- Until three years ago if you built a car yourself you could drive it with no number plates etc. to VOSA and pay £250 to have the vehicle tested and certified fit for the road. Now you've got a certificate so you post it to the DVLA and they send you the car registration document - NO. You must put the car on a trailer and tow it to the DVLA so they can say "Yes it's a car here's your registration documents" You now don't have to produce the car but the DVLA reserve the right to require photographs.

Are there any places around northern Scotland (preferably Inverness) that will allow me to rent a GT86? Going to do the North Coast 500 mile trip.
