Looking at the heritage concepts, the reason it doesn't work on the 4-series is that the design is otherwise sedate. It is a round, clean, nothing, with this one glaring feature.

Had they done an integrated rear spoiler and those floating front fenders, or a return to the round light design, then great. It could work because everything else is crazy.

hmmm

dont like it....that grille just doesnt fit with the rest of the car......

Its funny...its not that grille is big and gigantic...its just..the shape and size does not mesh.

Alot of the photoshops with the smaller (usually half height) sized grille looks way better than what they actually produced......

oh and a side note...i actually saw an 8 series on the road the other day...holy crap that thing looked....wide and flat......

Au contraire!

Seriously though, that's what you get when you use exterior color in the interior. Imagine it with a greyscale exterior color, like 99% of the cars would be...

Oh I am fine with exterior on the interior but where the hell did all that blue come from?

I don't like the looks of the concept but I am reminded of the horror when Chris Bangle released his vision upon the world via BMW. I seem to recall he was heavily criticized, outcast, deemed to have no idea. Then other manufactures started being influenced by his design and he became a visionary. Not universally admired but at least respected.
Maybe, and it's a big maybe, the same applies here.
