haha the quote is all i read into with no context.

And the first thing that popped in my head was levorg...since that is Subaru's performance 4wd hatch/wagon. (i guess its kind of an in between an impreza hatch and legacy wagon)

Just doesnt make sense to me that if they mention a 4wd performance hatch of some kind they'd make a impreza STI or something since they have a Levorg that does it already.

And upon further reading of said article i dont think its an american based site so the Levorg to NA thinking is nullified by that lol.

In all the ones I've driven, it's out of gear and foot off the clutch. Once you start to push the clutch it will start back up. If you keep your foot on the clutch it simply won't shut off.

Exactly this. I was told that the system should take into account things like battery charge, run time, outside temp, AC requirements.

My BMW is seamless, no jerking or hesitation. You do feel the difference between engine on and off though, but its ready to go almost immediately ones its fired up. There were instances where the engine DIDNT shut off (and made me wonder iif the start/stop feature was actually enabled or not), which im guessing had something to do with the fans...im not sure how it decides when to stay on or shut off.

Oh and if i have air blowing they go in a low power state when the engine shuts off and goes back to full blast when the engine starts up again.
I’ve noticed with all the stop start systems I’ve tried, they don’t shut the engine off if the battery voltage is too low or if the cabin temperature is high and the a/c is trying to cool the cabin down.

Shuts down when the clutch is out in neutral. The engine starts back up when you press the clutch pedal in before shifting out of neutral. Leaving the car in first with the clutch pressed in at a light won't shut the car off.

OK, so since I never take a car out of gear when I'm sitting in traffic, I guess it would never shut off.

The first (and only) vehicles I've driven with start/stop gas engines where built by Yamaha and looked something like this:

You should not leave your car in gear and your clutch engaged

Do you mean disengaged ?

I've done that ever since I learned how to drive a stick. Staying in gear with the clutch disengaged watching your mirrors at stops and lights is taught in motorcycle safety courses in case you have to move quickly to get out of the way of a vehicle coming up from behind.

Back when I still rode bikes on the street I almost got smashed by a dipshit in a SUV looking at his phone. If I had been sitting there in neutral or not watching my mirrors I doubt I would have had the reaction time to get out of the way. Judging from the damage done to the truck in front of me, I probably would have at least lost my legs being crushed between the two.

I'll take a chance on wearing out the throwout bearing prematurely.

Exactly. Car in first, clutch pushed in, eyes all around ready to go. 100s of thousands of miles driven this way, wouldn't do it any other method.

So everyone’s opinions on stop start will depend on what type of stop start they’ve experienced.
A brand new Malibu is my reference point for the auto/off feature. And. I. Hate. It. Hate hate hate it. It's so annoying. When you're driving around on a busy street or stop and go traffic, where you come to a stop but immediately have to get up and go, it's laggy, you then have the gas depressed further than you'd like and it just makes a jerky. Or you just take your time and then someone cuts you off or the POS behind you almost bumps into you. It's a terrible engineering soltution to reduce emissions or whatever.

I idle in neutral if I'm going to be at a light for a while. I would rather not put the extra wear on the throw out bearing.

Which brings me back to the point that unless you have an electric oil pump autostop is still a hard no go for me if I can't turn it off. Well, at least on a car that is my fun car. My Buick is a compromise with my wife lol.

Haha that's so different from my experience. What model year and engine were you driving?

Just make sure that the starter is as inaccessible as possible. Then while I'm in your customer lounge stewing over cost of replacement you can send some idiot in to pitch a new prius.
