OK, I'll bite. In some ways US Citizens have a more traditional British Accent than current British citizens have.

I often find myself going down the rabbit hole on BBC articles, they got really good stuff.

Not in Britain they don't.. There is definitely a "mid-atlantic" accent but I wouldn't go as far as saying that it's a British accent... I don't even know what you would define as a "British accent".. We have such a variety on this little island..

The article was written by the BBC so I guess you could ask them.

As far a what someone the US considers a "British" accent, I assume it's the same for you Brits when you think of a US accent, it's anything that sounds remotely British.

Typically, when I see a US accent done on a British TV show it's either Southern, New York Gangster or Boston aristocrat. Occasionally it's what I would consider the broader accent discussed in this article, but not often.

Personally, I can tell there are different regional flavors of "British", and I can tell the difference in some of them, but unless it is very distinct, I consider all of them British (not to be confused with other UK accents of course)

I spent 4 nights in a small village near Thruxton race track in late December 2001. I was there to drive a Ferrari around the track.

I was having dinner in a pub (awesome pub meals) and I couldn't help notice the variety of accents in the place. The guy behind the bar had a accent like from a UK gangster movie "gidday guv'ner". Cockney? The woman he was serving sounded like the Queen, all very proper, posh. All this in pub just 100 kms from London.
