Is the hatchback making a comeback???

I know that stationwagons and hatchbacks are not very popular here in the US, but back in the 80's and early 90's they were somewhat common. They've never lost steam in Asia and Europe. In fact, there are some crazy fast wagons in Europe. What's your take on wagons and hatchbacks?

'Murrica is finally warming back up to them. I'd say this is because of the fear of gas prices. I've always liked them but many out there really dislike wagons/backs.

IMO I think Volkswagon are the only one who could pull off with making a nice looking hatchback.

IMO, wagons/hatches are perfect for most of Asia and Europe, where most city streets are tight and 5 lane fwys are non-existent. Can you imagine something like a Expedition tooling around in Asia or Europe? It'd be like a tank.

I agree with you though, with gas prices rising in the US people are looking to be more efficient and economical with their wheels.

Meh it's a bit of a boat...

Edit: misread as wagon, point stands

Wrong subforum by the way...

It's hard to find a good wagon nowadays, it's either the Jetta, TSX, BMW, Merc, everything else is some sort of land barge "crossdresser" or whatever.

lol check out my edit, anyone who bought an FRS and researched first knows what a GTI looks like, makes sense to cross shop hot hatches, similar performance per dollar.

It's no wonder they're making a comeback. They are getting to be fun little asphalt torturing corner carvers.

this car was the first non hatch i've owned inawhile.

hatches/wagons are infinitely more useful than a sedan, grew up with the folks having a pair of mk1 rabbit diesels.

and both still fun as balls to boot. the vw was s2+ and suspension mods, forester is basically a modded sti minus tranny.
