I really hope the base model is not a hybrid but alas that's probably what will happen. A small displacement NA V-8 would be sweet, especially if they kept the curb weight around 3200-3300 lbs. but I also know that won't happen. Of course I don't mind a FI 6 cylinder engine, would keep it inline with the heritage of the last Supra and would probably be the only realistic way to meet emissions and still make good power.

Please don't become a 3,800 pound tank though. If I wanted that I'd go get myself another GT500, not that there's anything wrong with that either…in a muscle car.

I'm not a big fan of hybrids either. But I would rather see a base model be a V6 hybrid with 400hp like FT-HS, than a NA V6 with 306hp like the IS/RC350.

The RC350 is about 3,500lbs. So I would expect FT1 will to be around that weight.

For those that do not know we have a new FT1Club.

This is the Celica XX / Supra remake that will be the top model for the 3 tier sports car line-up for Toyota. Most people don't remember the Supra was originally the top model Celica.

The 86 is the middle model (Sprinter Trueno / Levin remake). There will be an entry level model (I'm thinking MR2 remake) once the new Supra is launched.

The Lexus RC is just a remake of the Soarer / Lexus SC.

I think Akio Toyoda wants the old sports car line-up back from the days he first joined Toyota in the early 80's (remember "Fun To Drive" from early 1984 that he brought back as "Fun To Drive Again" in late 2011 with the intro of the new 86).

I don't think FT-1 will have anything to do with the FR-S. If anything FT-1's specs are very similar to the the Lexus RC.

The RC is more of a IS coupe if anything. A true SC successor may be in the works with BMW.

FT-1
Wheelbase: 107.9 in
Length: 184.1 in

Width: 77.6 in
Height: 48.2 in

Lexus RC
Wheelbase: 107.5 in
Length: 184.8 in

Width: 72.4 in
Height: 54.9 in

Indeed. It looks like the Lexus SC (LF-LC) is put on hold due to its chasis. The original LFA had an aluminium chassis, the production LFA a composite carbon fiber chassis. The LF-LC is basically the first LFA with aluminium chassis in oderder to reduce costs, and of course no expensive V10. However, the new CF sportscar platform developed by BMW (i) - Toyota (LFA), will uderpinn the next generation 6 Series, and so the SC. Unlike previous and present 6 Series, which is based on 5 Series, the next one will have nothing to do with the 5 Series. Same for Z4 and GT86 successor.

First, lets not confused the LF-LC with the Toyota/BMW car / "SC successor". Work on both the FT-1 and LF-LC started years before BMW and Toyota sign an agreement on a joint midsize sports car. This leads me to believe that both FT-1 and LF-LC will be done in house by Toyota.

The LF-LC is a 2+2 luxury coupe that will most likely underpin the gen Lexus LS. LS and LC, kinda makes sense when you look at it that way.

the LF-LC concept could be based on a shortened version of the LS sedan’s chassis and be powered by a hybrid powertrain.

The competition for the LF-LC?

Now lets talk about the SC/SC successor. BMW and Lexus are both missing a: 1. A Two seater midsize coupe/roadster (Mercedes SL competitor). 2. A Two seater midsize mid engine sports car (NSX and R8 competitor).

BMW has confirm that they are in talks with Toyota on a Roadster. We also learn last year that the BMW/Toyota car will be a midsize. Base on these two facts it looks like it will be a SC replacement of some kind.

You know some of Toyota's best engines are cars aren't even developed by Toyota right? Hell they don't even tune half their motors.

You can thank Yamaha for tuning the 3S-GTE and the 2JZ-GTE

Keep in mind that Toyota is a major stock holder in Yamaha.

They've been in collaboration waaaay before the 2JZ so what's your point?

Bit of a random post but;

I really love the design of the nameplate. I dunno how or why they came up with it like that, but it looks so good...

When I get my supra I'm getting a shirt like that^^^^ Then flying it on my antenna while I drive the car shirtless.

The Cadillac Elmiraj has a 4.5-liter Twin Turbo V8.

Here is the sedan version testing.

i would imagine that it would be exactly the same as modifying a car without the hybrid system except you would also have the luxury of benefiting whatever things people think of regarding hybrid mods.

i get that hybrids are going to be met with resistance but typically emissions are good for performance. inventions like fuel injection, direct injection, and general aero awareness are all a product of emissions so im looking forward to it.
