Koenigsegg Regera

Initial images and info:

http://lovecars.com/blog/index.php/e...igsegg-regera/

1500 horsepower, 700 of those from the electric motors alone. 0 to 248 MPH in under 20 seconds, which is just about the same amount of time it takes a '71 Beetle to hit 60. I'm not sure what else to say, nor if anything else needs said.

More details after the reveal:

More details from Jalopnik after the official reveal: http://jalopnik.com/koenigsegg-will-...n-f-1689101650

Also the nose kind of reminds me of a Fraggle.

Juicy bits on the lack of a gearbox:

I don't exactly understand why you need an iPad and Wifi in a car like this but from specs alone it sounds like another wonder of engineering. Bet they'll sell out before one even hits the showroom floor.

I'm more of an Agera guy, but it looks the sex and the numbers are there. It's more than I could handle and that's not the car's fault, it's mine.

For the most part, they'd be right. The car is likely a lot more than the vast majority of the driving population could handle, myself included. I still tend to lust for Koenigseggs, though. If I were to (play) and win the lottery, I would happily buy an Agera R just so I could wake up every morning and stare at it for a bit. Possibly hug it.

As for a Miata or the twins being better, I reserve passing that judgement until I can get ample seat time in the Regera for a direct comparison, but... ahh... don't hold your breath on that one.

You guys missed the biggest news about this car. THERE'S NO TRANSMISSION.

It's direct drive. Below 30mph it's almost all electric, above that the engine is linked directly to the drive wheels. No gears, only 1 ratio. Electric motors fill in the other gaps.

To be fair, it is part of the headline in the Jalopnik article I linked when the info became available, but I am interested to read the particulars about how it works... and why it still has paddle shifters.

This car has too much power and too high a top speed but not enough combustion engine torque for just a single ratio.
Too many electronics to go wrong with the whole "hybrid" (but not really) system.
It's too heavy, it wont be as rewarding as a Miata!
Automatic is for girls, make it a real supercar with a manual for all us enthusiasts.
The twins have slippery tires and are fun at low speeds, this will take too much speed and may cause you to lose your license or have a high speed accident!!!

How did I do?

Perfect. As good of a response as I'd expect from somebody on this forum.

Good good.

Personally I would take a Koenigsegg over a P1/LaFiat/918 etc etc just because I love how bonkers, "built in a shed", and rare the Koenigseggs are.

It's in my dream garage for sure.

essentially allowing you to experience the endless amounts of violence unimpeded as your launched into the automotive equivalent of a lower earth orbit

Should allow for plenty of screaming

Well, at that level of power you're close to breaking traction with the single speed direct drive lol. I wonder how the drivetrain is programmed for daily driving use and what sort of hydraulic coupling they used.
