1st service

Made a Saturday appointment for my first service, it should end up at ~3,200 miles by then.
Spoke to the service advisor and they have not had a BRZ in for service yet (mine was the first sold from this SoCal dealer, when someone failed to get their preorder )

Anyway, the question is, do I keep quiet and just get the oil change done for this round?

Or should I also mention the rear deck rattling, chirping, and lately the idle seems to slightly vibrate the car (not sure if it's just psychological from reading all of the CEL posts or it's actually slowly changed from no vibrations before).

Since chirping is considered the norm, and no CEL from idle triggered yet, I don't think I want the service to be guessing on anything or trying to chase the rattle that I can monitor on this forum since it's only an annoyance at most.
Also, I will wait at the dealership for the oil change, so don't really want to spend more time if they want to look into the other issues.

This morning was the first time my keyless entry failed to unlock the doors for some reason. Had to physically press fob buttons to get in, hope it's not the start of anything from the rattling of the receiver thing in the rear deck...

I mentioned the chirping, and all they did was say they would contact SOA. They were baffled. I would mention the chirping if you have it, so SOA keeps getting bombarded with messages about it.

Have you looked at this thread for the rear deck rattle?

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13451

Has some links to potential trouble areas and quick fixes for them.

FWIW, the BRZ factory service shop manual says that you the first oil change isn't scheduled until 7,500 miles.

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat. I'm fast approaching my oil change interval. So I'll have to take her in for an oil change pretty soon. I was wondering the same thing.

BTW, which dealership are you talking your car into?

You could always say "I'm having x problems, but no need to look into it, just let SOA know I'm having these issues." That way you're in the clear, but SOA knows that it's starting to become a problem for others

What ihaskrayon says is a good idea. I wouldn't mention about the chirping noise since I'm sure they're already aware of it now. I would mention about the rear deck noise.

I would be more concerned with them washing your car after the oil change as a dealership courtesy. They will ruin your paint.

Also, when you were unable to open the door with the remote in your pocket was your cellphone in the same pocket?

@ Turbowned = yeah, I follow that thread, but still not sure what exactly is causing it. probably the receiver in the rear deck, but not in the mood to remove panels to get to it to see...

@ xjohnx = SoCal seems to get 2 year free maintenance and the back of the agreement shows oil change every 3,750 miles, so I will take full advantage of it up to 24k miles before I start stocking 0W20 in addition to the 5W30 I stock for my other car.
My dealer also has 4 complimentary oil changes valid for 3 years, so I can use those during the 2nd to 3rd year, so maybe no getting dirty for 3 years!

@ zoomzoomers = I purchased from Sierra Subaru, Monrovia. Absolutely excellent and no bs/honest dealership, which is why I will drive there for service even though Glendale is so close...

@ ihaskrayon & Sigh-on-Rice = I am more concerned about the slight vibrations at idle at this point, but will wait for a CEL. Rattle I can look into myself when I get bored, rather I learn how to remove the rear deck from this forum than someone else who also has not worked on the car before. Leaning towards just getting the oil change done this round, I guess.

@ ngabdala = I don't mind the washing if they do it, mine is just a daily driver and I keep up with frequent synthetic wax/polish enough times. DGM is much easier than my black car.
Fob is always in my right pocket, phone in left. 3 months and never failed to open before (usually it is TOO sensitive, unlock/lock/unlock while washing car). Anyway, worked fine all day since the morning hiccup, weird, but doesn't seem like a problem.

funny coincidence...I was actually gonna take my car in for service this weekend too at the same dealership. Something came up so I will probably do it next weekend. I think my BRZ was the 4th or 5th one sold by them.

I didn't get the 4 extra complimentary oil changes (did get the 2yr free maint. though)! Damn it! ahh wells.

Can you let me know how the whole process goes so I know what to expect next weekend? Thanks!!!

Fine, guess I'll be the guinea pig.

If you got their $500 savings card, it expires shortly, but I think that becomes the 4 oil changes up to 3rd year. I am sure service can reconfirm you have the credits in the system, just ask them when you go. But then again unless you drive tons of miles per year, you will probably end up using 2 of those 4 during the 2nd to 3rd year before it expires.

Are you having any issues that needs mentioning during the oil change?
How many miles?

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out when i go next week!

Issues I have seen are pretty much the same ones everyone else has...rattle/tapping noises in the rear deck, idle jumping around a lot with the A/C on (pretty sure its more than normal), cricket noises, etc. lol

oh, currently at 2,900 miles...

got my 1st service done today, just oil, filter, gasket.
i did notice that the new filter looks skinnier. i had written down the part# of the orignal filter which was 15208AA130. the new one that's on there is 15208AA160 (interestingly the invoice shows part# 15208AA130).
anyway, hope it's no big deal.

took about an hour to be out of there. free coffee in the cafe 2 buildings over, and they gave a voucher for free car wash at a service station few blocks away, which i went ahead and used since i have not vacuumed the car since new for 3 months! it is not a handwash, but ones that pull your wheel through with rotating cloth and recycled water that smells funky but no scratches on wheel or body and it looked clean (which may be more a result of turtle wax liquid ice that i like to put on every few weeks). good to have cleaned inside and i gotta say the stuff they used on the windows must be incredible, spotless (i clean the windshield inside and out regularly, but never got close to this sparkling). need to find out what it is, because they do not wipe it as carefully as i do on the inside yet it came out incredible, lol.
