The car was made for drifting. If that doesn't interest you, there are cars made for driving.

Geeze, where do they find these people?

I've had more problems with understeer in my FR-S than oversteer, honestly, if that helps, though, depending on what BRZ you buy you may or may not have the same experience as I do.

As long as all aides are turned on and you aren't driving like an idiot, you should be fine.

These cars are certainly tail happy. I moved to my BRZ from a Focus ST and it's hilariously fun to get the tail out a little in slow tight corners or feel the push of the rear end in a fast sweeper. Both of these require active driver control - you need to be aggressive on the gas pedal to get there.
If you drive the car at a reasonable speed for the road and don't mash the gas you won't have to worry about unexpected oversteer. For me, the beauty of the Twins is that they are controllable, allowing you to approach RWD driving dynamics at your own pace and at your comfort level.
If you drive a Twin like a regular car you won't need to worry about oversteering or drifting, but as you grow more confident, comfortable and interested it will allow you to explore that, unlike FWD or most AWD cars.

That puts the car into a diagnostic mode that fully disables all TC functions. Not a drift mode, most of us who track these cars use it as there is still some TC interference with the TC button held down till off.

Pulling the Handbrake while im rolling definitely puts my other car in drift mode as well and its a Front Wheel driver… Just a great winter tool to explore.

You can "drift" any car depending on how badly you need that kind of fix...

They Even drift trucks on northern icy roads.

The BRZ/86 cannot be pigeonholed as a drift car or track only, I just did 40K KM in just one year and the road holding was exceptional. I have other priorities in buying a car than drift and expenditures that come with it!

The nice thing about this car is you can make it what YOU want it to be and there is great aftermarket to turm it into that!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I will surely test that car before buying so I will see. Just wanted to know if you have to fight this car with every tight corner. If "driving like an idiot" doesn't mean "anything over 40 km/h" than it sounds fine. Are aides aggressive in this one? Mine Lancer X has very aggressive aides (ASC is like "fuck I'm not going anywhere if it's raining") but in Impreza I almost didn't notice anything even in snow.

I drove Focus ST 2013 and damn that torque steer has been killing me. I understand that someone likes that (and I also like hot hatches) but that's exactly what I don't want to - fight with my own car with every faster corner. Active driver control is absolutely fine - that's what I want - but with the limits. I would like to be alive

Of course that pulling the handbrake puts car into the drift I'm talking about this.

40k per year is pretty much for this type of car. Thank you for sharing your experience. Sounds like I don't have to be worried.

Not sure how aggressive aides are in an Evo X; I haven't driven enough of them to determine that.

However, the aides in this car, without any sort of VSC Sport/Track mode, do a good job of cutting throttle if you turn in too aggressively, and prevent slides most of the time. VSC Sport in pre-2017 models allow a bit of slide, but otherwise still stop you from going too far.

I have no experience with Track Mode in 2017+ models, but from what I understand, they are far more lenient than VSC Sport, and you can even transplant them into an earlier model if you prefer (just wanted to toss that one out there).

Well this is getting to be off topic but thank you for info. I am thinking about the used one like from 2015. I heard there are also differences between 2013+/2015+/2017+.

Sadly I have just regular Lancer not the Evo. Impreza was the WRX so it might makes the difference between them.
Ok thank you. You gave me a lot of useful information.

The biggest problem with owning a Eight Six/BRZ is getting used to hearing the drivers of the cars behind you constantly yelling - "NANI ??!!! KANSEI DORIFTOOOO !!!!!"

I’m new to this car coming from a fwd hot hatch. Driving like an idiot every once in a while hasn’t been a fight to stay in control of being out of control.

Mountain, canyons, and track have been difficult for me to lose traction with the aides still active. Breaking traction was a little bit common.

This isn’t a Mustang, you and your surroundings will be safe.

@Suapak, I have approaching 175,000 miles on my 86, nearly all of it commuting.

If you've ever driven a rear wheel drive car you'll be fine, because it acts like a rear wheel drive car. Now, mind you that is likely the type of car your Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother drove, without the electronic nannies so even if you haven't driven one, you'll be fine.

If you push hard on the throttle in a turn will the rear-end move? Yes, but so will any other RWD car. In fact, a lot of people use the throttle to help steer in that situation.

Can the rear-end break loss if you are too aggressive? Probably not, unless you've turned all the safeguards off.

Can you make it do really tight doughnuts in the snow? Absolutely and I encourage it when no one is looking.

Can you drift it? Yes, but it has to be on purpose. I've actually drifted my Suburban more than the 86 because I try to drive it the same way as I do the 86. Doesn't work in my favor.

Can you drive it in the snow like a sane individual? Yes. I've even done it on summer tires, though I don't recommend it to anyone, including me. Necessity is sometime the mother of stupidity.

@Tcoat can tell you about using it as a snowplow though, because really what I call snow is mostly ice down here.
