How did you identify blown headgasket during turbo swap?

Took it apart. The tube was brittle and disintegrating. Looked like it would have burst any moment.

Thanks for the response and diligence! I'll give you guys a call on my lunch break!

There's a lot more factors to consider than X psi equals Y power. Ignition timing, cam timing, boost targets, type of boost control used... We cannot just equate a power number to a psi number and call it a day..

So now my car is running smoother than it ever has, but making less power on a larger turbo. Now I'm still left scratching my head what to do.
Personally I would find another tuner. A tuner should never recommend going back to OEM injectors so he can run them on the ragged edge of duty cycle when you have perfectly good upgraded 550s and 1000s. It sounds like he has issues tuning the injector scaling on the aftermarket injectors. My advice would be to go get on a Dynojet and see what the car does. I am not that familiar with what kind of power cars should see with lower compression on 91 octane, but I would throw the bigger injectors back in and turn up the boost.

Well I have the same engine, basically the same turbo same fuel and we both had 1000's so we theoretically be near in power. The only variable is the tuner

Ye sir, all factors I mentioned are 100% dependent on tune.

There's absolutely no reason whatsoever to try and push stock injectors to the ragged edge when you have a set sitting there. Install the bigger injectors, get them tuned and profit.

Guys we shouldn't just jump to conclusions, there HAS to be something else going on. Bill @DeliciousTuning tuned my car. I made 370whp on their mustang dyno (~438whp on a jet figuring 20%) at 15 PSI on e85. I have Bosch 1000's and he was able to dial them in like a dream, and not once telling me that I needed smaller injectors. I don't think he has a problem dialing in injectors. I think there is some information we aren't getting. I beat the living hell out of my car at the track and practice drift events and I have not had one single problem. AFR's are ~11.8 at wot and I haven't seen leaner. Something just seems fishy to me, I just think there are too many variables to go and blame the tuner. (and no I am not one of those guys who worships their tuner like a god and thinks all the rest are crap). I think there is something else going on.

I think it's the lower compression. All the cars tuned there so far have been stock engines, so there's not nearly as much to change to make the power. I think he just wanted to get rid of as many variables as possible. That's not what he said, but I can't see any other good reason.

Sterz, your IDC was 44% with those 1000cc on e85 too.

PM, glad we could assist with getting the head gaskets replaced and the oil leaks fixed.

King Tut, Bill does not run port to the "ragged edge". He does not normally go above 94% IDC.

Deadspool, we identified the blown head gasket as soon as we put the car on the dyno. We did not drive it prior to swapping turbos as we were told the tune was suspected of causing drive-ability issues. But on start up after the swap, we had the smell of burnt marshmallows from the exhaust, liquid dripping from the exhaust even after reaching operating temp and coolant dripping into the header from the exhaust valves.

Good to know, Ive been smelling feint bits of coolant lately. No overheating issues are present though.
