949 Racing 6UL 17x9 +48 Fitment

Having tried a buddy's Apex ARC8 17x9 +42 wheels at my last track weekend, I was convinced that a 17x9 fitment was going to demand spacers and studs in the front. The +42 wheels looked pretty good up front but poked a bit too much for my taste in the rear. I was convinced that +45 to +48 would be about perfect in back, thus requiring a spacer in front. I currently have the car lowered about 3/4", with about 2.2 degrees of stock camber in the rear and about 2.6 degrees in front. I have RCE SS1 coilovers installed.

I stumbled across the subject wheels, available at 949 Racing.com for just $150 in either black or bronze! Evidently this was an old WRX fitment. These wheels are out of production, but apparently they had a few sizes that didn't sell out.

With my NC still out of commission (because I am having a bit too much fun playing with the BRZ at the moment), I decided I needed these wheels and wider rubber my next track weekend. I had some unmounted 255/40 Kuhmo V730s ready for the NC, but I was a bit worried they might a bit too wide in the rear so I bought some 245/40 Hankook RS4s for the BRZ. In the interest of science, I decided to mount one of each to test fitement.

I have 7mm spacers and extended studs on order, I stacked a couple of 3mm spacers to test the front.

Executive summary:
- They look great and fit really well!
- An unbelievable value.
- I'm contemplating getting a set of bronze cause they are such a good value.

A few addtional details:
- Without spacers in front, the 245s rub the forward inner fender. Not surprsing.
- With spacers in front, no rubbing at full lock in either direction.
- With my current camber and ride height, the 255s are pretty tight in the rear at full compression, but don't appear to rub. With a bit more camber, I would feel more combfortable.
- I will likely run the RS4 245s at the track at is gives me a bit more confidence that I will not rub the fenders in back.

Pictures to follow...

The wheels look nice, but check for stress cracks after each session. Some folks have had durability issues with 6ULs. Google them.

Yes, I have read about that. Does not seem pervasive, but I will definitely inspect them.

It's probably about 3/4". Not too much.
