The pump is high pressure driven by a cam lobe and is a mechanical pump, the pump seal is probably of a hard material or teflon which causes the cricket like sound. Unless you replace it with an electrical one. But replacement mechanical pumps will eventually make noise again. Dunno if an electric can be put in place of the mechanical and high pressure electric pumps are typically noisy.

Nah nothing to do with it. He just went from chirp free gas to chirp gas. I go back and forth all the time.

Does replacing the fuel pump actually fix this issue?

No. They have not had a revision yet that eliminates the sound (it isn't really a "problem") and I doubt they ever will.
This condition doesn't seem to exist anyplace else in the world but no place else uses ethanol in their fuel like we do so I don't think fixing it is a high priority for Toyota.

Is there any additive to lube the seal? I think the pump plunger seal is the culprit. Some brand of gas must have an additive than others that is somewhat quieting the pump internals. I'd like to take a pump apart to find that darn cricket!!

Don't take it apart, you'll risk actually breaking it. Or if you want to whatever too. It's not broken as it is, the chirps are more of a characteristic.
But if you really want to get rid of your crickets, get the recommended 93 octane or higher and make sure you get 0 ethanol or alcohol additives (Alcohol family so tactrol, blah blah) and least amount of additives always helps. They'll be gone after a tank of gas. Once you've cycled through the old stuff. I don't know the market for your area but up where I live, it's a bit tougher to just straight up gasoline because pumps add anti freezing agents because of the climate and halfs the pumps are not labeled if they contain less than I think 30% ethanol.
It's agreed on by now it's the alchohol content that makes it chirp.

I thought this subject would have died by now.
Well it's not the fuel, I use only Shell V-Power or Sunoco Ultra, both are 93 octane, I have been using both since I got the car new. I don't want to take my fuel pump apart just "a" fuel pump.

Uh, I said alcohol family. Shell VPower's pretty good up in the north, chirp free. Blends are different in other places though.

EDIT: If I'm wrong or whatever, forgive me, studying for my 3rd midterm this week, cooked.

The stickers at my gas stations say that it may contain up to 15% ethanol. Higher than that and they have to report it.

Nah Steve it has been shown time and again that ethanol in the fuel can me a major contributor. The problem is that fuels are not consistent everyplace so some guys say "I use X with no issues" while others say "X causes them all the time". Add to that the fact that even ethanol seems ok a when the ambient air temperatures are low and we get yet another variable when people try to compare fuels. All this adds up to the conclusion that personal " I have" and "I don't have" stories don't mean a thing.

I got rid of it after adding no ethanol fuel here in Florida...issue is that it's only 90 octane. Can I get away with that, maybe add octane booster and leave it at that?
