According to Toyota, I have the alleged "updated fuel pump" on my '16 Scion. If this is true, then that means crickets are still a thing.

I consider anything over about 70 as hot and 80 to be hot as hell and 90+ to be HOW THE HELL DO YOU LIVE THERE so we all have different perceptions of "hot".
If I used gas from certain staions I would get chirps from about 70 degrees and up. The hotter it got the louder they did. Even at their loudest though I could only hear them in a drive through or by really listening with the windows down.

I really want to get this done, but don't trust Toyota mechanics to mess with my car...

Me either but they do the change by the book with the correct tools and should be liable for any faulty work. I'd rather they do it than a non Toyota mechanic who may do it wrong and not replace all the parts listed in the TSB. I believe Toyota must do the work if I'm not mistaken.

Since it is warranty work then yes Toyota must do it to get paid. There is nothing to fear from MOST dealer techs contrary to the sentiments expressed on car forums. They work on thousands of cars a year without any issue. We just hear about the very small percentage of people that do have issues and it skews the perception.

200 km on the new pump and it's now warm enough around these parts to hear the crickets (5c).
Not a peep!
So far so good.

Normally I wouldn't worry, but it's pretty much Toyota mechanics working on a Subaru. I wish I could just take it to Subaru instead.

I will just need to start finding out which local Toyota dealer is best for repairs.

We had a saying in the Navy. "Parts is parts."

I wish it rained here 70 degrees and up haha, it would be a miracle! It was about 50 degrees and I was hearing crickets.

It's honestly not that bad because you get use to it. If I lived in Arizona however... that is hot as hell for me.

Southeast Toyota has decided that they will no longer apply the warranty to the fuel pump. They gave no real reason and refused to provide that statement to me in writing. They will not honor the factory warranty or acknowledge the TSB.
I corresponded with Scion who was going to fix the problem and then Toyota who flat out refused.
Good luck to anyone hoping to get rid of the noise. I guess that Toyota gets to do whatever they want now that Scion is gone

It has nothing to do with Scion being gone since it was always a Toyota warranty anyway. As I have said 1,000 times a TSB is not a recall or even a notice of defect. It is simply a document that tells the techs how to fix a known issue. It is totally up to the dealer if they will actually do the work. They are not required to do it in any way. It is a sure sign of a shady dealer when they won't fix a known issue though. Not sure why they wouldn't since it is money in their pocket not out of it.

You can try another dealer, but Southeast Toyota is the entire region (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and North and South Carolina) so he might have to go to a different state . There are two distinct Toyota franchises in the US. Southeast Toyota was apparently first and covers FL, GA and other states down South.

In that case, maybe he needs to bring it up to Toyota HQ here in North America.
