I don't remember if you had discussed it in the past. Worth repeating such an amazing experience. I've been through a few lesser earthquakes. A pretty decent one struck when I was in the Philippines in 1986. Took a couple days to settle down.

But if the CSZ lets go you'll know about it regardless of what number is assigned to it.

Two points of varying interest regarding the 2011 Japan earthquake.

*some time ago I learned
Tangentially-related but when I was in Japan for my trip there last year, I was also in my hotel on the 8th or 9th floor and had a similar situation. Obviously not on the level of Tohoku 2011, but it was enough that the building swayed and I got slightly anxious.

I messaged one of my new 86 friends I had met a day or two earlier about it. He re-assured me that in Japan they're so used to even larger earthquakes that if they see a foreigner not knowing the right protocol for taking shelter/whatever, they make sure to come over and help out.

Just one of those things .

Wonder how many hours that robot can run between service intervals. That's a tall ask for repeatability.

BMW seems the only company bothering with decent colors any more. Pity they don't make a car I'd bother driving. Never been in one I found comfortable. Only other company on the "I'd rather walk" list is Honda & co. Toyota is trying SO hard to join them - last shopping experience was that bad.

My buddy at work put in notice, so now I am learning his job. I don't mind a department change but I have a feeling I am going to be dragging a lot of my old duties with me. At least I get a nice big office with a window in about 2 weeks.

Family is in for a funeral this weekend. It's already a loss I'm not taking well and on top of a bad week already. I'm pretty short fused already and trying to keep my composure while catering to 8 relatives currently and 26 people tomorrow... none of which I invited myself (all done by another relative without my permission after their spouse refuse to host at their own place.)

I woke up this morning and they were trying to push my cars out of the garage to make way for some tables/coolers as well as make additional room to visit in case the weather turned. Pushed my stripped (bare metal shell) RX-7 out of the garage and into the rain. My blood is still boiling.

I just want to go full Karen, kick everyone out and say, "To hell with you all."

I'm guessing if you were to say/do anything you would be the bad person.

ask any woman.

any real woman.

"how would you feel if i were to randomly start digging into your purse for something because i felt it was important?"

well the same goes for a guy's projects in his garage.

kudo's that you're even attempting to maintain a little composure. i'd start booting people's luggage out into the yard.

I remember when, during a family dinner, one of my nephews was shorted a piece of meat loaf compared to his two brothers. My mom unceremoniously scooped up one of mine and lovingly set it on his plate.

When she saw the utter shock on my face she just shrugged and said, "He needs it more than you."

It has a light coat of Gibb's on it a good 3 month back when some cracks around the sunroof 'delete' were fixed. I expect come morning it will have quite a bit of surface rust where the droplets hit.

Yup. Wasn't informed until it happened so if I cancelled it would be me in a bad light.

Want to say I'm used to it. Part of the reason I want little to do with family. Everything with them is a big, over the top, toxic production from as far back as I can remember.

changing the subject because family stuff sucks.

found a new flashlight today, acebeam tk16.
https://www.illumn.com/flashlights/a...-included.html

hadn't heard of acebeam before, but seem like decent products.

nice little flashlight, one of only a few that gets a high CRI. best of all, it uses a standard triple-beam 20mm carclo TIR optic, which means i can play with the few dozen optics i've already got for different beam patterns.

just ordered a turbo glow gasket that sits behind the optic as well for a nice look..
