Turbo Twin versus Mclaren Mp4-12c

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut55yR2Yu8M"]New Toyota GT86 TURBO vs McLaren MP4-12C - YouTube[/ame]

Here's a nice little video showing a turbo 335bhp 86 against a Mclaren mp4-12c on the track.

They're pretty evenly matched...

If it's a repost why do I keep hearing about how 86's aren't the best bang for your buck??? How many new cars with 35K invested can keep up with a Mclaren mp4-12c on the track???

Not to hate on the twin but the guy driving the Twin is a pro - I don't think the reviewer has the same kind of skills.

I'd rather see the pro behind the wheel of mclaren in front and the reviewer in GT86 keeping up. If that happened - I'd be all over this vid.

This.

I love my car and im positive its a true gem. BUT it would be more interesting to see how this car stacks up to the mclaren with two pro drivers. I think this gt86 would hold its own and not be left in the dust but I think the mclaren would probably come out on top if it was pro vs pro.

It will be interesting to see as time progresses and other manufacturers produce other similar cars. Thats when we can really compare how good of a car it is in the future. Ex: the inevitable new nissan silvia or whatever they produce to compete with the twins.

The platform developed for this car has crazy potential. CSG Mike got some seriously close lap times to the ZR1 and GT-R at a track somewhere southwest.

Keep in mind that not everyone wants to (or can) "invest" more money into their car than what it costs new, regardless of the car.

That's Steve Sutcliffe, he's an ex pro driver. He knows what he's doing. If you watch the video, they're on a tight course where the McLaren can't stretch its legs. It also looks like a semi-gutted purpose built track car. That said, it's definitely been proven many times that the BRZ/FRS platform is a good platform to build a track car.

An oft here, an exhaust there.... coilovers here...a turbo, a turbo manifold...

All of these things can be purchased gradually over time as money and time permit.

The initial cost is lower, the ultimate result is greater...

That's one of the main purposes of modding...

Watching the video, isn't that an AVO kit?

Yep Sutcliffe can definitely drive. But as you said, the McLaren is still just a road car. Apples to oranges comparison vs. a track-prepped GT86.

Except in that scenario, you don't get the "ultimate result" likely for a few years.

What kind of argument is that???

What's the alternative??? Buy a car so that you can't even afford to fuel it because your payment is so high relative to your budget???

If in that position, I'd rather take a few years to make a car exactly what I want than settle for some grocery getter that costs more and is marginally better to start with..
