Fiberglass Air Bubbles Subwoofer Enclosure
I couldn't find any information on the internet about what the effects of small air bubbles in fiberglass would be other than making it not as strong as it can be.
Would they create a terrible sound for a subwoofer? Any information and suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Pictures would help. How big are these bubbles? Where are they?

But its a series of small bubbles and one huge one I plan to sand down on the bottom of the fiberglass plug.. It's my first time working with fiberglass and I havent used a roller... just a chip brush in a stab/dabbing motion. I am already 5 layers in and was wondering what would be the best plan of action |

I did a real crap job on a fiberglass enclosure when I was like 16 and never noticed any rattles from air pockets or anything. Started by creating a shape with a fleece blanket and fiberglassing that, then just layered on this extra thick mat my buddy managed to scavenge from somewhere. Fairly certain there were tons of air pockets larger than what you are showing if I remember right. I had a JL 10W6 with like 500w or so. I had the volume of my enclosure waaaaay off so it sounded like crap because of that but I don't think those air pockets would create a problem unless you're putting out major wattage.

The fiberglass looks fine to me. If it can flex too, much it will change how it sounds. Speaker box fill can change the sound of a sub Depending on how much you add. By adding or subtracting fill you can "dial" in your sub. Of course this is providing that you have given the sub the correct dimension box.

Hard to tell from the pic but it looks to me like you need to about double the amount of resin you are putting on each layer. The bubbles are not a big deal since you aren't building a boat but not enough resin will end up with a very weak box. The layer of resin should be equal to or thicker than the layer of fiberglass.
