Tire Recommendations
Hello all,
In the near future, I will be replacing the stock wheels for these (57xtreme 17x9.0 +40): http://www.evasivemotorsports.com/mm..._Code=57xtreme Here is where I am requesting help. I do spirited drives on many twisty roads and enjoy the very little effort it takes to slide the tail end out with the stock Primacys. After a few hours of reading/research using the stickied threads, calculators, etc, it appears the stock tires will not fit safely onto the new wheels I'm planning on purchasing. May I get some recommendations on tires similar to the Primacys that will safely fit? Thanks! *********Extra tidbits of info********* - I would get the 17x7 (which the stock tires will fit) but it's not concave enough compared to the 9's, looking at the pictures posted on this forum. - Keeping stock suspension/height. - I've been using the following thread/post for information so far. Those 245/40-17 Federal SS-595's look to be grip-orientated tires. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58968 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=20 |

595ss are noisy, cheap, and can feather along the tread edges(thus making more noise). They don't have much more grip(if at all) than the stock primacys. They also run slightly larger than advertised.
They do look good(square shoulders) and are extremely cheap. I'm satisfied with them at the price point. One of the better bargain bin tires. |

I have Federal SS-595 tires. They are pretty grippy but they do make a bit of noise. Fortunately you'll only hear it if you drive in complete silence. I never do so I never hear them. As Swarb said they do run large. To large for my tastes, the side walls are pretty bulgy but I also didnt want much stretch so I guess I cant complain when it comes to that. If you'd like a pic of how they look on 18x9.5's I can post one up. For the price though they are on point. No doubt about that.

These tires stick just a hair past the rim just FYI.

I'm on Federals, too. Definitely run on the meaty side, which I love the look of. Even so, the sidewall doesn't seem to flex much. I believe they do have more grip than stock--my speeds reflect this, I feel, but my TC lights are coming on quite often. Maybe it is only marginally better grip--or maybe I just need an alignment. (Recently lowered car; camber bolts; new wheels/tires).
They are noisy. They seem to break away in a linear fashion. Paid 380 bucks shipped from vendor on Ebay. Counting them as a steal, even if only a band aid. |

Thanks, man. I'm 235/40/17, so a solid size. I should probably just go get it aligned for peace of mind. It often times just cuts me off at somewhat tame speeds. I drove with stock wheels/tires with this new suspension for a couple weeks and didn't have any odd amount of lights--I may just be driving it a bit too excitedly.
Was doing near 65 and had my drivers side tires over the rumble strip and it was flashing like crazy. The thing is, I don't feel the tire losing grip. Although, by the end of the run today I was able to go around a tight corner with tires wailing, no lights. High speed. Had them on for a week--might just now be spitting off the top layer and getting into the meat of the tire? |

i just ran through a set of BFG Rivals (2013 design) and loved em.. ONLY when they were warm though. not too loud, and really took a beating (didn't mind being run hot).
i'm now running Kumho V720s, i'll give a review of them after the autocross event. are you looking for a tire that'll last more than 10k miles? |

I run 255/40/17s in Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position and then Hankook RS3 in Summer on this same setup.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67968 Nice choice of wheel! I like this car on 17s. However - if you don't do anything for the HP - you are going to have a harder time slipping that back end. |

As for HP, not looking into FI anytime soon. Once I pad my savings, I'll go headers + tune and exhaust. Figured a little more pep for now. |

Do you know what tire pressure you run? I may fiddle with that a bit too.
