Depends on the car enthusiast. I'd have now problem buying a used car from a middle-aged guy with a garage full of tools but I wouldn't feel the same about buying a car from an 18-year-old kid with a shocker hand on the window.

I'd buy a car from myself in a heartbeat.

tools don't require knowledge or a permit to purchase. they just require money.

not all money is spent wisely.

Woah! havent checked this in a min, I tend to check back every now and then for any extra adviceon the topic, but these are all great points being made!

I appreciate all the details that were brought up.
it seems that the changes between certain models are minute and insignificant, but you guys bring it up anyways down to the smallest detail. (or these are big changes and i have no clue cuz idk what the hell rockers are lol)
but big-ups for being thorough i really appreciate it!

but when buying a car, IF from a car enthusiast, theres a few types that ive seen or come across that range differently on the 'responsible owner' scale.

some owners like to service their car at dealerships exclusively, and others are very good about doing their own maintenance on their cars aswell. I wouldn't mind buying from either of these owners given they show their proof responsibility in their work/up-keep. (even down to their online listings, clean car, thorough description, answers any and all questions)

Of course, theres the more irrisponsible owners that ive been kindof staying away from.
even if they do service their car ontime and appropriately, they would still race their car at most given chances, and try to push its limits. i understand theyre enjoying their car to the fullest, but i dont want it after you've been rough with it.

i know not all owners are like this but just from personal experiences and deals ive walked away from, this is my impression. maybe im wrong about this aswell tho,
(also all the posts i see where people take only 1-2 pictures of their cars with trash/misc. items scattered everywhere, and the description is only 2 sentences, ima group those under here aswell)

but overall, thanks a ton!

ever heard the term "death of a thousand cuts"?

the incremental improvements over the years are similar, but to the opposite effect. it translates to meaning that a 2020 brz/86 should be fundamentally more reliable long term than any 2013 brz/fr-s.

it doesn't mean that one pothole will destroy a 2013, but that a 2020 has a much more rigid structure that will better deal with it.

the same with the motor. it was brand new in 2013. after 2016, they had 3 years of service history to look back and improve upon, so they did. tweaked cam profile, reinforced portions of the crank supports, etc. it doesn't mean that a 2013 will blow apart at 100k miles, but the 3 years of experience makes a huge difference in the real world understanding of how stuff works.
