Beware: Perrin Tow Hook is.... not a "Tow Hook" : )

Recently purchased a Perrin Tow hook for simply loading the car on my super-low Futura 'kneeling' trailer.

This is what it says in description:
Quote:
This product is NOT designed as a recovery hook! For any vehicle recovery needs, the OEM tow hook provided by the manufacturer, OR other suitable method as determined by the manufacturer or recovery company should be utilized. In no instance is the PERRIN Tow Hook designed for the purpose of recovering the vehicle! This product is designed for “show use” and for pulling the vehicle solely in a straight line. For example: Loading vehicle on to a “roll-back” style wrecker. The maximum total weight of vehicle and contents not to exceed 4000 lbs.
Since my angles are very kind to it, more so than an average roll-back trailer, I thought this would be fine to winch it with. Alas, it bent the first time I've used it, despite being very gentle to it.

This is the loading angle for me, using my trailer and BRZ.

This is an example roll-back trailer they're talking about

It bent from close to stem. I think they just need to upgrade it to stronger steel.

After this issue, painted the OEM unit to black and installed that instead; doesn't look bat at all : )

Anyway, if you intend to buy it, keep in mind you should probably never put any load on it.

Was considering the Cusco front tow hook (SKU # 687 017 F). Anyone have experience as to whether that one is functional, or just cosmetic?

most recovery pro's tend to say "if any recovery device doesn't have a load rating, assume it can't"

OEM tow hooks are cheap on eBay and salvage yards… and tend to be interchangeable within a brand. I bought 2 from an outback as I recall and painted them bright red. You want them to really be visible for both your shins and the recovery driver!

And for some the street cred while parked in a Walmart lot with a bunch of lowered widebody but mechanically stock cars!

The Raceseng is a nice part, I have had to use mine before It has an interchangeable end to mount the license plate. Can't beat the OE tow hook them, people practically give them away.

And as an added bonus, if you are in a parking lot fender bender, they can both puncture the bumper cover or body panel of the car you hit, while at the same time transferring the impact directly to your frame! Best of both worlds

They actually screw into the f/r crash bar, not the actual chassis.

Ah, yes, but they do so directly in line with the frame rail. It does change things.

If the incident damaged the frame rail, I would say you got bigger problems to deal with.

Does what it says on the box I guess.
Can't get up in their face about it if you use it anywhere but instagram.

Got the Raceseng ones and they worked great when my engine blew. Track support used it, tow company used it, still good to go less a little paint on the loop.
