That blue is amazing. If I didn't have my Gen 1 car so dialed in I'd be all over that.

Sorry for the delay, was super busy de-modding my old car, preparing the GR86 for autox and track. A lot to update on, but one step at a time.

Received the oil analysis results from Blackstone ~2 weeks after sending:

For the oil change, went with Mobil 1 5w-30.

Thinking I might need to track the car with the stock suspension, installed a Perrin 19 mm front anti-roll bar, went with the soft setting.
Those fancy factory braces made the job a bit harder than on gen1.

Installed the Braille B14115 battery I had on my BRZ (#weightreductionbro).
The battery clamps are slightly different on 2022, and have minor clearance issues between them and the tiedown.
Maybe having a reverse polarity battery (B14115RP?) would help.

Since I decided to take off the mods from my old BRZ before selling (as opposed to selling as-is), I had an unused set of CSG TEIN Flex A, so decided to put them on, along with:
  • Verus RLCAs
  • Shorter low profile front end links
  • Cusco 16 mm rear anti-roll bar
  • Titan 7 T-S5 17x9 +37 in the front
  • Konig Hypergram 17x9 +40 in the rear (trying to see how bad the fitment issues are)
  • Falken RT660 245/40R17 all around

Kept the geometry of the coilovers unchanged, and the front fitment looked basically the same as on the old gen1 car:

The tires in the rear were looking way too aggressive though, so +40 is a no-go:

Gorgeous car! Really looking forward to more updates!

A couple of n00b questions if you will humor me:

- Why Mobil 1, and why 5W-30 in particular? I am about to do my first oil change on this car in preparation for my first track day on Saturday, so naturally I am curious why you went with this.
- Is there any advantage to going with an adjustable rear lower control arm rather than an adjustable upper? I'm the guy that asked about this on your FB post, reason being is I'm heading in the same direction you are with the car in terms of suspension mods and I'd like to be able to add wheel clearance along with negative camber adjustability if at all possible.

On behalf of the entire internet salivating over modified Neptune Blue GR86s... post more pics please! =]

Just curious: The CSG Tein Flex A's, would CSG's set up be different for gen 1 vs Gen 2?

Probably, as the motion ratio at the rear has changed so the optimal rear spring rate would be different as a result. Otherwise, I would imagine they would largely be identical.

I would expect them to bolt up with out any problem but spring rates and valving may not be optimal for the gen 2. I would definitely run it by @CSGMIKE.

RCE did a writeup on it. It is marginally different.

It sounds like the suspension geometry is similar enough to work, but I think I heard that the 2nd gen unibody is stiffer than gen 1 and we know there is more hp and torque. So, hypothetically, coilovers tuned for 100tw tires tune for a gen 1 may not be optimal for a gen 2. Just my noob observation.

If helpful, this is a friend's Gen 2 BRZ for comparison.

I'm no expert either, but IIUC thicker oils provide better lubrication at higher temperatures, meaning say at 270ºF 5w-30 will be physically similar to 0w-20 at 250ºF.

5w-30 is and has been commonly used by people who track their cars with FA engines.

In my case, I already have RLCAs on hand, and preordered wheels in +47 offset. I believe that should be just enough wrt fitment/clearance issues.
I've heard it's also easier to dial in camber with RLCAs than with RUCAs.

Since I used gen1 RLCAs, the motion ratios in my case are in fact identical (or near identical), but...

... this.
After I installed gen1 CSG TEIN Flex A's on the gen2 along with 245/40R17 RT660 and drove around the Lawrence Expressway exit of Hwy 101 South, I couldn't believe how loud the front tires were.
Overall the NVH of the front suspension is noticeably worse than it was on my gen1.
