Engine from Auto car into a manual car?
So, I'm swapping my blown motor with a junkyard motor, and I came across one on ebay that appears to be taken from an automatic.
The shop I've taken my car to for the swap is not sure if everything is the same, particularly some of the electronics. Does anyone know if I'd run into issues using the engine pulled from an auto car? J Thanks in advance. |

I can't see why not, but then again, modern tech has advanced so far much that you probably could and I might be missing something here.

You'll have old original ecu from manual, right? And it's firmware version will be fitting to engine version? (heard there were some changes in MY2015 engine in cams and alike, no? .. i guess firmware in ecu should better match those changes)

Swap flywheel on, the electrical wiring harness from the MT car has to be used as you do not have the shift solenoids anyhow. Other than that mechanically I am pretty sure its a direct change over. No extra sensors that I am aware of.
Small things like below show an AT oil pipe which is capped on a MT with a bolt. http://parts.subaru.com/a/Subaru_201...10-006-01.html

the upper oil pan on the auto has a small nipple for a coolant line, the manual has it blocked. other than that its all pretty straight forward when they are side by side.

You will have to take off the vacuum pump on the passenger cylinder head, too, and replace it with the block off plate that exists on the manual.

If you have the blown motor, and the "fresh" auto motor you have everything needed to put the new one in the car. Nothing internal is different, just some external parts (as mentioned already).

Okay. It still seems like slightly less labor to buy a motor from a manual so I think I'm going to do that.
Thanks guys |

^^ Compare the labour rate (or how much you value your own time) to the price difference. I'd imagine an hour or two to swap stuff over.
