I'm so jealous! Driving your new 86 on some of the best roads in the US after tourist/RV season with the best weather on record, it doesn't get much better than that.

I know what you mean about the looks of the 86 TRD. Like the content, the overdone body kit straight out of the '80's takes some of the excitement away. Dealers are already discounting them deeply around here even though they just arrived.

Congrats! Enjoy the drive back down. You got the best color IMO. In my case, around four months ago, I flew down to S. Cal and drove it back up to the Bay Area. I think I got the last MT GT 86 Black Thunder in CA.

If anyone's looking for Thunder color, I believe the last one in CA is at Sunnyvale Toyota. It's been sitting at the lot for the last 4 months. Has the TRD wheels and sway I believe, except it's an AT.

Got home yesterday evening after an epic journey. I took the 199 to the 101 which ended up being hundreds of miles of twisties through primeval redwood forest and beautiful coastline, then used ca 299 to cut back to the 5, which also ended up being another hundred or so miles of twisties. I put 1200 miles on her already in the first two days, and it was an epic 1200 miles. I must say though aside from the trip through the redwoods i took the 5 the rest of the way and prioritized getting home in time. I've done the pch ride through big sur many times and didn't feel like doing it again and arriving hours later, even if i haven't done it in an 86.

Anyway, gave her a good wash today and got off all the dead bugs, but forgot to take pics of the wash. Unfortunately already seeing some swirl marks in the finish.

So you're the reason i had to fly up to Portland! Worked out tho, i had an amazing time coming back. I did see the one in Sunnyvale but passed seeing as it was at. There was a standard trim one in the northeast somewhere, and there's a used one with 2000 miles in Pasadena going for 32k! used and substantially more expensive than mine, no way was i going for that!

Great pics! I do agree it looks best at dawn/dusk. I took I-5 all the way back from S. Cal just to save time instead of heading up 101 or 1, but stopped overnight at Harris Ranch for dinner and just to make a nice trip out of picking up my car.

I tried to break the car in as much as possible and didn't really go over 65 much and varied the RPM and followed a ways in back of semis since most don't drive that fast. I did manual calculation and I averaged 34MPG! Now that the car is broken in and I drive it more aggressively , i haven't come close to 34MPG again!!

Car looks good bro. Southern Oregon/Northern Cali coast is legit. Roads are sweet as long as you don't get hung up behind an rv.

Now you've done it. I thought I was over my '13 FRS but no. These cars have a timeless beauty that I believe will eventually be recognized in, oh, 20 years at a Mecum auction.

Test drove a TRD Edition

The ride felt a little firmer in a good way and the Brembo's sure are confidence inspiring. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires are a nice upgrade.

As for me ... +1.0gs on this fancy meter and I have a red light that keeps flashing on the big gauge. Man is this thing noisy!

Congrats! You're the first TRD SE owner to post. Of course, pics are required when you get the chance.

What's the source of the noise and at what gear/speeds? Tires, exhaust, intake, wind, or all of the above? My '13 with its Perrin w/o resonator was loud but I considered it more music than noise.

Does yours have optional TRD lowering springs or sway bars? A few in my region are showing up with those but wonder if they'd be practical for DD duty with the firmer Sachs dampers.

You'd be a hero if you post a how-to thread on stripe removal.

And yes, your opinion matters. Magazine reviews are one thing, actual owner experience is why we're here.

Edit: Here's what I meant about your opinion matters. A Toyota dealer in my region is trying to sell one and, like some others, listed it as having an A/T. They're probably so geared to selling RAV4's that they don't think M/T's are available.
