I installed the updated TOB this weekend and it's buttery smooth. $17 from Toyota. I hope this one lasts longer than the ACT bearing I put on with their clutch. It was squealing badly at idle and in gear after 1k miles (two track days included) with my new turbo kit. |

So I start the car yesterday morning and hear the TOB going nuts. I'm at 80k so I guess it's time. Glad I found this TSB so I didn't order the old bearing. If you go to the normal parts page it still lists the old part unless you tell it you have a 2017. They must be looking to pawn off the old stock.
I was thinking. Is it possible that so many are having failures due to that DIY on this forum for adjusting the clutch engagement point? Any car I have ever had, that adjustment is't really for the engagement point but to adjust how much free pedal you have before contacting the TOB. Maybe people are adjusting this to the point where they have their TOB under load at all times. |

Has anyone got their TOB fixed by Toyota even though they're outside the warranty? I just passed the three year mark a couple months ago, but I also have ~80K miles...

This might be a dumb question but which warranty covers this? 36k or 60k?

Yep. Even though there is a TSB saying it is covered it still remains a wear part so they didn't extend it to the drive train warranty.

Nope, they just had no idea wtf I was talking about. The one dealers service desk didn't know what I was talking about, so they transferred me to the service manager. But he wasn't there and never returned my call. Called another dealer and the woman at the service desk had a 0 idea what I was talking about. She kept saying "nope, there's no recall here for that car". I tried explaining that it's not a recall, just a TSB, but she kept insisting that there's no recall. Didn't bother to look into it for me, or even ask the manager or someone. I'm just paying to have my done at a local shop that's involved in the local 86 scene. Not like Toyota would replace mine anyway as I have 80k miles and am a few months over the 3yr limit |

So I get a lot of noise when my clutch is depressed in the mornings when my engine is cold, goes away when I let off the clutch. Once the engine warms up the noise from the clutch goes away completely. It sounds like a light scraping noise. Started in about October, BRZ has 70k miles on it. Thoughts?

Anyone else get a sound from the front of the car when engine braking in 3rd or 2nd gear (low speeds)?
Sort of a “ROMPROMPROMPROMrum” Sound is comparable to when I was first learning to play electric guitar. I don’t play guitar anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As far as getting it fixed under that 3yr/36k mile warranty, it's sort of hit or miss depending on the dealer. I've seen a few posts where they actually covered it, and others where they wouldn't. Good luck! Last edited by Beachin86; 02-09-2018 at 09:49 PM. |
