Since the 13 is all paid for and well out of warranty why not consider just modding it for performance? Be far cheaper than starting fresh.
Besides although $50K may seem like a good budget for that much you could just be buying somebody disaster car. Really good deals are usually really good for a reason when it comes to performance cars.

I think an old GTR or one of these. The old roadster is what I always think of too when I hear the name Cobra. The new Shelby Cobra is far more than $50k, unless he wants to do a down payment.

—————————————————

A newer Mustang GT with an aftermarket supercharger or GT350 or a C7 or C8 Corvette or Camaro ZL1 would be higher on my list than prior gen GT500, if I had to pick a heavy car. For $50k, a Porsche 911, Supra, F-Type, Z4, Evora, M2/M4, RS3/RS5, etc would all be higher on my list than the American muscle cars.

Camaro ss 1le. Plenty of power, fairly reliable, incredible track performance for the money.

I would be very careful of a GT350 out of warranty.. new engine will cost more than what you get for your FR-S. Amazing car though, probably once in a lifetime kind of car at this point.

it's got supercar maintenance bills.

this is 7 years of pretty typical maintenance with 7k miles/year:$17k, or about $2500/year, of course not including higher registration, road taxes, or insurance rates:
https://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-ne...e-you-ar191763.

did some work at a nissan dealer a long time ago, there was a gt-r completely torn apart on one of the lifts, so i asked about it. the guy hit a tire in the road, it cracked parts of the motor and transmission. total cost? $62k. the service manager told me the guy was paying himself.

the buy-in for a gt-r is somewhat low for a supercar, but that doesn't do anything for the recurring costs!

my brz? after 8 years, is at roughly $3k in maintenance, at 50k mi, -- 3 sets of tires, 10 oil changes, 1 brake fluid change, and a few age-worn parts... of course the major 60k interval is coming up for plugs and fluids, but still.

after having needy cars early on, i definitely appreciate a car i can just get in and turn the key and not have to worry so much about maintaining it every few miles.

What you pay for a car is only half of the financial equation. I learned this with my first 911. Lol, 10k? I can afford that……

Man, I love being low and light but I also like being able to throw my bike in and go to the skatepark or if I want to go camp.

Thinking about trading it.

I have done both those things with my BRZ many times. Slambert hitch for the bikes, all my camping gear fit no problem including a small amount of firewood. I did get stuck on a speed bump at a state park one time, car sat a little lower loaded up

I know you referenced this to show the cost of vehicle repair, but any halfway decent auto insurance policy would cover that. Looks to me like an idiot paid $80k+ for a car then cheaped out on the insurance.
