The best one (Torque) is android only, but there are apps that work for iOS, although I don't have any experience with them.

The Bluetooth adapters do not work with iOS but the Bluetooth LE adapters do. The problem is the descriptions on these products never tell you if they support BLE or just BT. The adapter I got runs Bluetooth AND Bluetooth LE. So it will work with Torque on Android devices or OBD Fusion on iOS. What is funny is the description for the adapter I got specifically says it will not work on iOS but it actually does.
Here is a link to the exact one I ordered (pulled form my order history): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This link should automatically select the "Bluetooth for Android (Enhanced Version)" but if not, be sure to select that option. The OBD Fusion app is $10 and also has an inapp option to adds Toyota specific PIDs for an additional $10. It will read almost everything that Techstream can with that addon. You don't need the addon to simply read a CEL and clear a CEL though. Here is a link to the app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/obd-...ign-mpt=uo%3D4 Here is a video I made showing all the channels you can read with the Toyota addon: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31F3ulaxaLU[/ame] |

You can pay a small amount to unlock manufacturer specific PIDs (parameters). |

Yes, when you click that link to go to amazon you will notice the listing has several options. The “Enhanced Version” is the one I have which has Bluetooth (for Android) and Bluetooth LE (for iOS). The other option for iOS is to get the WiFi version but that one is annoying because you have to connect it to the adapters WiFi SSID which means disconnecting it from your home WiFi (assuming your at you home while using it). BLE is more convenient to use. |

or you can just get one like this.
https://www.amazon.com/OBD2-Scanner-...s=obd2+scanner I have several scanners both handheld and software. This one was my first and gets the job done with no fuss. once you get the code just search for it on the internet to see what the problem is. |

Forgot about that app. For the record the adapter I linked to above also works with DashCommand. I also tested it with Carista and that works too. Carista lets you change dealer set options like disabling the annoying seatbelt warning because a wet leaf blew in the window or disable DRLs, change the volume of the keyless entry and stuff like that. |

Removed the dash. It wasn't horrible. I was expecting worse. I'll be chasing electrical and smaller items for the next while. I'm going to see about removing the Evap core.
Edit: I'm looking at removing the Evap core because I did the AC delete. I'd like to try and finish the job. I looked at it briefly tonight but saw no easy of doing this. I'll do more research. Last edited by new2subaru; 02-19-2019 at 10:11 PM. |

Well it’s nearly twice the price with less function. Simple in functions but not necessarily in usage. I’ve had a basic scanner for 15 years but these days I don’t even bother with it and instead just use the BT adapter. Actually I just leave it plugged in most of the time. If I ever want to monitor something I just run the app on my phone while I’m in route and up come a bunch of gauges without even plugging in a cable. I don’t even need to be in the car crouched under the dash with a 6in cable trying to read the screen. |
