DocWalt's WRB BRZ

I've had some fun cars in the past, but I picked up a BRZ a few years back. Finally getting around to making a member's journal here.

Current mod list:
- Cosworth Panel filter
- Wheelhaus CF third brake light
- JDL Auto Design UEL header
- JDL Overpipe
- JDL "Ultra Quiet" frontpipe. Catted & Resonated.
- Open Flash Tablet for loading tunes
- STI/Group-N engine & trans mounts
- SRP throttle pedal
- TRD clone spoiler
- Whiteline diff bushing inserts (rear only, the outrigger bushings make too much diff whine on decel)
- Perrin 2.5" Resonated Catback
- Carbotech XP12 pads (for track days, way too dusty for prolonged street use, IMO)
- Maximal Performance Oil Cooler
- Ohlins Road & Track coilovers
- SPC rear camber arms
- Whiteline subframe bushing inserts
- Enkei RPF1 17x9 ET35 in Gold
- OEM mudflaps
- GT3 brake air guides
- Whiteline 20mm adjustable front sway bar
- Essex AP Racing "Sprint" BBK

Some pics and videos:

I did a couple of autocross events on the stock prius tires.

I won C Street first try with my bone stock BRZ. My fourth run was my fastest, for a win by 0.7 seconds.

I got 6 runs in at my second event. My fastest was the 6th run. I essentially didn't have much competition, I was about 3 seconds ahead of second place, which was running a Porsche 968 Spyder

Installed a SRP throttle pedal

I ordered a right angle OBD2 plug extension from Amazon and got a rather odd surprise with the cable...

Did another autocross, got bumped up to STX due to adding the JDL header.

Did another autocross in STX on stock tires. Drove kinda poorly, but oh well.

put my TRD clone spoiler on my BRZ:

After prepping the GTI for autocross tomorrow I threw my new catback on the BRZ... Sounds pretty awesome, IMO

Track day prep complete... XP10/XP8 pads installed, Maximal Performance oil cooler installed... All set to destroy the crap factory tires, haha (which didn't happen, the silly Prius tires took the abuse like champs)

Track day, bro! Not in my GTI though I'm at Shenandoah Circuit at Summit Point Motorsports Park, in West Virginia. What a beautiful facility! I'm here with Trackdaze, which so far has been an amazing organizer. My instructor is fantastic, really egging me on and giving me great guidance.

From the bridge into the track:

You can see the Karussell (dimensional copy of the one on the Nurburgring) in the background here. What an awesome corner, you can really haul through it due to the banking.

Carbotech XP10s have gotten a wee bit hot

Day one is in the books. Going back for another four 30 minute sessions tomorrow. Though I might skip the last session, depends how tired I'm feeling.

Put on the red Tom's

Then I completely ruined a front sway bar end link.

I got my front coilovers on at least.

Quite a bit of rake until I get the rears on, hopefully tomorrow.

-2.5 degrees of front camber with OEM fitment wheels and winter tires looks atrocious, for the record.

I finished installing my Ohlins today and aligned the car. -2.5 camber up front (Might bump it to -2.8 or something, depends how my tires wear) and -2.0 in the rear. About 1/32" toe in front and rear. Set the dampers to 15 clicks front and rear and took it for a few short drives. For being so much stiffer springs than stock (I'm using 60N/mm front and 70N/mm rear. Ohlins provided 60N/mm all around) the ride is sublime. WAY better than the KWs on my GTI. I'm excited to get some miles on them now

The car is sitting pretty much an inch lower than stock. I'm 1mm from running out of adjustment in the rear. The new rear springs being so much stiffer meant I had to lower the back ~8.5mm which puts the height adjustment nearly bottom out. Also, the car looks hilariously bad with that much camber and terrible offset wheels...

My car is filthy as it's been raining for something like ten days straight and it was too cold to bother washing it today, sorry

Alignment specs right now are -2.6* camber up front and -1.9* in the rear. 1/32" of toe in front/rear (wandered too much on my winter tires with 0 toe). The front has settled to 25 1/8" fender to ground, rear is 25 1/2". I think I'll raise the front a bit to 25 1/4" after it finishes settling 100%.

I was at 15 clicks on the coilovers, I set to 12/13 front/rear. That seemed to get rid of a bit of the choppiness over little bumps, the Ohlins ride a lot like stock, but a bit more controlled. They definitely have less travel though, which sucks on crappy Pennsylvania roads.

Snow, whee...

Saturday I got to help my buddy install a Whiteline transmission support poly insert, then drove around his ACE 4-2-1 header equipped car for a back to back with my JDL UEL header. Good times

Monday I got my new tires 245/40/17 Bridgestone RE-71Rs

Today I got my new wheels 17x9 ET35 Gold Enkei RPF1s. Right around 15lbs and as awesome looking as I had hoped!

Before:

After:

Ignore the filthy car. Stupid salty roads

Stacked the RPF1s next to the factory wheels. Kinda silly

I got my JDM BRZ tS badge in today A bit ricey, but oh well, heh.

Did some things. Oil change, diff oil change, GT3 brake air guides, OEM mudflaps, installed the RPF1s and tires and took it for a mini-photoshoot

GT3 air guides for the brakes:

OEM mudflaps:

The mudflaps aren't going to do much to protect the sides of the car or the rear bumper

Mini-photoshoot trip:

Oh and I got ready for autocross (tested magnetic numbers, heh)

My first event of the season. I have a lot to learn about the new car and setup. I really need to trust the car more often, you can see how timid I was in some places.

I've got another event tomorrow...

Drove kinda crap on this one, but oh well. Plenty of improvements to make and I still got a trophy...
