Although I'm sure it will start a heated discussion, numbers I am curious about (although frankly won't matter once I test drive the car) are the gear ratios... still no published numbers that I have seen.

Yes the chest beating knuckle draggers are going to be out in full force once all the numbers are out. It will be a reoccurring of events.

I am really trying to like the styling, I am. But it feels like when the MR2 went from the MKII to the MKIII...albeit, not that drastic, but my sentiment is the same.

Ego. It does hurt at times though to hear every YouTube reviewer stress the slower than miata theme. Maybe those days are over for at least a year

I believe in ‘numbers’ to the extent they’re useful, objective data. Such as specifications for things like gear ratios, and the shapes of power and torque curves. A car with a 4.56 rear is going to drive very differently from one with a 2.93 (all else being equal), as would be the differences between two engines with peak torque at 3000 vs 7000 rpm. Such things are very real and meaningful, and best described with numerical data and specs.

The ‘numbers’ I think are silly are when people argue until they’re faces are beet red over the ‘differences’ between 0-60 times of 6.3 vs 6.4 seconds.

I feel you, as car enthusiasts we care, we want to hear our car is king of the crop supercar killer, but the reality of things is they have a car to sell, and if it's not the one they are sitting in, it's surely the one sitting in their garage or wished to be.

A recent guy that I started to detest, Matt from carwow. He won't shut up about the GR Yaris and how amazing he thinks it is. He honestly called it more boy racer than a CTR because it has a basically invisible carbon Fibre roof. The thing is god damn ugly and the man's a bloody idiot, how is anything more boy racer than a CTR..

But I digress, opinions are just that, opinions.

FA24 vs. FA20 is a very different scenario.
8th-gen Si made 197hp at 7800rpm, rev limiter at 8300 (I think?). 9th-gen Si made 201hp at 7000rpm, rev-limier at 7200 (I think?). So stock vs. stock not really a big improvement, only +2% *peak* power, lost ~1000rpm off the top, and less rpm headroom above power peak.

Meanwhile the FA24 makes 11% more peak power at the same 7000rpm and apparently revs at least as high (7500 or 7400, vs. 7400). And it has an average of +20% more torque throughout the rev range, and a max advantage more like +30% in the midrange where FA20 has the torque dip. And the car is essentially the same size and weight as 1st-gen. It should be noticeably quicker.

Yup opinions. I wouldn't be caught dead driving the CTR. But I think the Yaris is badass (sign me up lol).

So analytical.

Car 1) has balls
2) doesn't have balls

My 2013 falls into the first category.

It's a nice car whether it's a 400Z competitor or an MX5 competitor.

(I don't like Mazda or Nissan)

I’m not too big on peak-power, bench racing when we are talking about fractions of a second when there is gearing, tires, redline, area-under-the-curve, etc. You made a great attempt. I’m sure the 0-60 time improved by over a second, but I don’t think these horsepower and torque gains are enough to do that on their own. My guess is that the PS4 tires are a big part of it.

Peak power is god damn stupid if you're not able to extract every single ounce of performance out of the car, which I doubt very many people here are able to.

I'm thinking that Toyota may be able to tune a little more aggressively due to the amount of clean vehicles in the rest of their lineup.
