Anyone powder coat stock wheels? pics?
So, I don't hate the stock wheels. They aren't terribly heavy and I like the 17" size. The shiny silver I think is my least favorite part. I'm seriously considering black or a gun metal coating my stockers. Anyone got some pics of stock wheels coated/painted, etc?

Clean your wheels well and plasti dip them your self. Two spray cans and you can try out the color you think you want. If you do not like it pressure wash it off and ty something else. Then you can powder coat.

Take my advice and rattle can them or plastidip. Here’s why. It cost about $500 to powder coat 4 wheels, unless you know a guy. I bought sweet prodrive OZ wheels for like 400 bucks used for my 04WRX. They needed a refresh, I had cash so I powder coated them. They look awesome 7 years later and I love them. But it was a timeless classic wheel. I would not spend 500 on the stockers. Put that money towards a new set. I spent 900 for wheels I really love, but man there are some great new wheels in that price range, so it’s not worth it unless you love the wheels. And who really loves the stock wheels.

Stock wheels are great. Plenty of people like them. They are actually a damn good value. Tough, light, middle-of-the-road stylish... Way underrated.
I like cool wheels but the stockers make it tough to justify spending the money.

They are way better then some other stock wheels. (Like my 04 WRX). Still not nice enough to put 500 into them. You can use them for winter and put the 500 towards a nice summer wheel.

Never really liked them to be honest. I don’t think they are ugly by any means, but they just never really grew on me. They look better with spacers I think. I’ll be swapping mine out for something different.

I should probably specify, I have the 2017 wheels that are a pseudo-five-spoke style. If I had the FRS wheels with the 15 spoke design, I wouldn’t bother.

I love my OEM wheels, I went to Superwrap and got their Frozen Matte Bronze finish.

I like plastidip for winter wheels. Protects them from corrosion.
Not a fan of Using dip on nicer wheels. Finish never holds up to brake dust and grime. It will embed into the finish and look like crap after a while. DIY rattle can looks acceptability good. I did a set this summer with duplicolor wheel paint. Issue with 1k clear is that the finish is soft which isn't ideal for wheels. I noticed some nicks from rocks hitting them. 2k would he more ideal, but needs proper ventilation and a real respirator as it's pretty volatile stuff. Duplicolor graphite finish for reference. http://imgur.com/a/80aJ8tS Sunlight shot. https://i.imgur.com/vEl2fJI.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zqV9ePT.jpg |
