It's funny cuz I was pretty sure Asus would never pop up on my radar after that whole thing. But I feel a backdoor is significantly worse in every possible way.

Also didn't MSI have a backdoor issue too?

they're all terrible in their own ways.

i tend to just run asus/zotac boards. one glitch isn't going to change that.

I've never played the previous renditions of System Shock so the remake has come as a bit of surprise. While the graphics are definitely only a couple of steps above pixel and the game play is just a little bit clunky I'm surprised at how modern it feels in an old school way (duh!). Deus Ex obviously took some lessons from this game.

The level design is dungeon crawler-ish and disorientating. There is one option at start up to give a mini map which I opted for. I would be seriously lost without it given how similar all the rooms/corridors look.
Yeah, I am enjoying this.

You realize this is a firmware exploit and likely does not require a specific OS? In one version of it, all it requires is a "firmware update" at a specific location on NAS.

It injects a .EXE executable through Windows Platform Binary Table. It's a way for OEMs to have executables in a UEFI table that get silently and automatically installed when Windows boots.

Linux doesn't recognize the injected payload so it gets ignored. Even if it was a linux specific file, you have to make it executable first through setting the permissions before it will launch it.

My MSI Z270I mini-ITX board has been 100% rock solid. Would definitely buy MSI again after how great this motherboard has been, but I can't see myself upgrading anytime soon.

Sounds to me it just needs a different targeted exploit. I haven't studied in-depth though so could be talking out of turn.

Oh absolutely! I'm not trying to say Linux is immune, just not really worth catering to (yet lol). I'm surprised that Apple's ecosystem is as virus-resistant as it still is considering they have taken quite the market share since the early 2000s.

For now, it's still very much windows first and foremost that gets targeted. again, for now.

Apple has their share of vulnerabilities but like you say folks go after the big fish.

Been thinking about this recently....

I currently use a Ryzen 5 2600x. perfectly capable, perfectly fine for me.
My upgrade path ends with the 5000 series chips.

I do want to upgrade one more time (I dont think i'll be doing it soon, but i'd like to do it before the 5000 chips becomes EoL, which i suspect will be soon)

The choices boils down to:

Ryzen 7 5800X
Ryzen 7 5800X3d
Ryzen 9 5900X

-The 5800X is the obvious choice if my primary concern is budget, as its the cheapest out of the 3 by a fair margin.
-The 5800X3D seems to still be one of the best gaming CPU options right now so if I want the best gaming performance on AM4 this might be the route to take.
-The 5900X is 12core/24 thread vs the 8/16 of the other two so perhaps if it looks like more cores is the future this might be the way to go.

As of right now where i live the 5800X3D and the 5900X are within 20 bucks of each other.....

Which would you go for? I thought the 5800x3d would be the way to go but the extra cores of the 5900x got me thinking a bit more.

If it matters i have an Asus B450M A/CSM mobo. Im aware i'd probably need to use a more beefy aftermarket fan to use these CPUs (and no i wont be overclocking)

I also do direct comparos like that on userbenchmark.

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compar...7839vsm1528736

Generally, it's a good place to get an idea of performance and price all in one place but some of the recent GPU pricing nonsense made the pricing section inaccurate.

My 5600x is available... I went to a 5800x3d because of the gains in the stuff I do. Sim racing etc. It's only evident with higher numbers of other players/cars all together. Not sure it was worth it.

I'd go for the 5800X. I think It's unlikely you'll notice the difference between the 2 once your FPS counter is off.

I'm kinda in the same boat with my 3800X, but I'm not so sure I want to upgrade at all. PC gaming got a lot more expensive in the last 3 years, and I mainly built my rig for HL Alyx. So if my next upgrade is to run Valve's next game I should be able to wait a while
