Only thing I am worried about is, for camber I would need to buy camber plates and they might make car noisy, while being very expensive.

Expensive, yes, for nice ones. I had the Raceseng ones and they never made any noises though.

I can confirm this. My previous set-up included both 14mm and 16mm camber bolts with Pedders offset (-.75*) top mounts on Koni Yellows. My alignment guru said -3.5 may be possible however due to my long DD requirement we settled at -2.75 to save the tires. Have switched to Ohlins with their adjustable top mounts and one camber bolt. Maxed at -5* for track and much less for street driving.

From the manual, page 7:
Quote:
Damping Adjustment
Reference position for damping force adjustment:
1. The adjusters are set at 7 clicks from the factory.
2. The adjuster affects the rebound, and also, the compression damping to a smaller degree.

Adjust Damping
Turn the adjuster clockwise to fully closed position (position zero [0]). Then, turn counter clockwise to open, and count the clicks until you reach the recommended number of clicks. See recommended set-up in the Mounting Instructions for the shock
absorber.
So am I understanding correctly, that these coilovers are 1-way adjustable, and that the adjustment is mostly for rebound? Does anyone have the inside scoop on what the ratio of rebound:compression change is?

I had KW Clubsport 2-way on my FRS, and on track they were fantastic, but on the road I found them a bit unpleasant over broken pavement and a 800km roundtrip to the track. I was always curious if the 3-way KW's would have been a better choice with high-speed adjustment as well. This Ohlin 3 valve system seems to try to accommodate for the high-speed bumps. Would be nice if there was an objective review comparing 22+ BRZ stock suspension to the R&T, I'm finding the stock rear a bit too soft for my liking on track, although the comfort is amazing.

The R&T spring rates are in the install manual, listed as 60 N/mm (converted to 342 lbs/in) both front and rear so very much a front biased system when motion ratio is taken into account.

That's pretty nice. If I get ohlins, I would go for 15mm drop, and top and bottom camber bolts with OEM hats, I assume that would give me about 3 degree camber. Which should be more than enough for me.

How are the Ohlins compared with the Racecomp Tarmac 2 and Super Street 2? The price are so similar?

99% street use only

$2499 Tarmac 2 - no camber plates +$180 Pedders Top Hat = $2679
$2399 Super Street 2 - with camber plates
$2210 Ohlins - no camber plates +$180 Pedders Top Hat = $2390 (cheapest)

Ohlins seems best deal to me and "looks" like it has better materials on the shock body.

Any comments? Thanks!

When you spend money on fancy dampers you should be paying more attention to the development time spent on the actual chassis, rather than nice components put together for a generic off the shelf kit.

Talk to RCE and see what they say.

Just my thought.

Why are you looking at coilovers like these for 99% street use?

Ohlin's had a lot of issues on the first gen with the front end link mounting tab. Unless they redesigned this I wouldn't touch them. If you really want to compare them you need to see a shock dyno plot.

For 99% street use, I'm not sure Tarmac 2s are the best fit for you. In our range, the RCE SS1s would be a better match IMO. The SS2s are a step firmer than SS1s.

We ran the original Ohlins on our 1st gen shop car years ago and put a lot of miles on them. We liked the valving overall quite a bit but weren't happy with some of the other details like the endlink mounting tab (mentioned above) and the camber plates (which are thankfully optionally now). They also had a more limited height adjustment range than most other coilovers. That wasn't a huge problem for us though.

It would be good to get more information about you and your car, like tire choice, other mods, and so on.

Thank all! Especially the endlink mounting tab information.

My 99% street use is based on:
2.3km circuit x 20 laps x 10 track day max (for the entire ownership of my car) 460km vs 120,000km street driving (~6 to 7 yrs). So 99% of the mileage are on the street. Hopefully that clarify things a bit.

With respect to why looking at these coilovers:
I am looking for a reliable or quality coilovers because I don't want to pay extra for low end coilovers if it breaks down (remove and re-install, alignment). I had Tarmac 1 on my 2005 legacy 17 years ago from RaceComp and it last me 7 years without any issue. My current Mini has a ST coilovers for 5 yrs so far so good. I am okay going with KW/RCE/ST, just that I see the Ohlins price is similar and it is a reputable brand. Now that all 3 of your comments help (especially the mounting tab information and glad I asked around). Nothing is better than end-user's experience and comment TBH.

With regards to low end coilovers, my friend has a set of Megan Coilover on his RSX and he had to remove it within 1 year (the damping adjustment knob is broken) and end up replaced with a set of Koni. My other friend's BC Racing coilover on his Mini has fitment issue and he end up bought a set of KW. Both had to spend extra $ for removal, reinstall, alignment and purchase of another set of coilover. Hope that address why I rather spend more $ upfront on a higher quality coilover than a low end ones.

If you have any suggestions on a reliable coilover for street use, please let me know. I will look into it as well; otherwise, SS1 appears to be a better choice for me per Andrew's comment.

Thanks!
