Gen2 Blown Engine Resource Thread

I am seeing more reported FA24 engine failures so it's time to get a registry started to see if we can tease out patterns through data and draw some relevant conclusions. I've created the registry below. Please complete if your engine has failed, be as specific as possible and share this with others.

Good idea to document. I haven’t heard of many failures yet, but maybe I have missed them.

How many have you seen reported out of like 12k+ cars sold? I'm guessing at 12k, since the 2022 totals for both cars was just north of 8k. And ordering for 2024 models has been open for a while.

I have seen people report them on various social media platforms. This is not a "let's be scared" idea, this is to document failures early on as it can lead to a better understanding of scenarios under which they happen and root causes.

Gotcha. I'm trying to decide between letting the dealer drop the pan and check, they said if they found RTV it would be covered under warranty.

Or just go to the local Subaru speed shop here and have them drop the pan, clean out any RTV, install the baffle and additional screen and call it a day.

Pretty much all the cars I have seen or heard of have had RTV when the pan was dropped. If the dealer is going to do it for free, why not.

Do you trust the dealer not to goop it up like the factory?

That's part of the problem. And if they over-used RTV and it failed because of that anyway, how hard is it then going to be to get the entire engine warrantied.

But hasn't it just been RTV and money shifting so far?

That sucks and that noise made me cry on the inside.

Had you dropped the pan to check/clear out RTV? Any oiling mods? Oil cooler? Oil weight?
