Mod with good secondhand components

I have picked up some good parts both new and secondhand over the 5 years I have had my BRZ.

A couple have been new e.g. XForce headers sold pretty much at cost from at TRD supplier. Similar with a brace kit, Turismo is the brand got everything for less than $700 (the dealer was having trouble shifting it) may not put the fender braces in as I can't be bothered pulling the guards off, but I have used everything else.

Recently picked up some HKS Hipermax IV GT coilovers for less than a grand secondhand. Some poor guy had plowed his Toyota 86 into another vehicle and it was a right off. The wreck was bought by someone who had an old EVO but decided to sell the struts on. This last purchase may cost me as we need to get compliance certification in NZ for that alteration. Should be in the $300 range though to sort that.

Sounds more like a build thread than a question

I would not spend that much money on mods. You will never get any of that money back. Find a different car honestly. This goes for almost any car. Doubling the cost of the car with mods does not double the value.

Everyone understands the difference between worth and value, no big deal.

Bet, I'll meet you at the one on Wade Hampton by Greer

I have three current projects if you include the BRZ so it's not just a Subaru ruining my financial life.

What you THINK it will cost
What it REALLY cost
and then what you tell your wife!

This should be true for all hobbies really. My wife thinks that golf cost about $20 a round and the average price of a model kit is $10.

That only works if the wife is clueless about things.

If she in the know or knows some things, yeah that aint gonna fly.

I know people will come in and dispute this most likely, but believe me, I have the spreadsheets with everything priced out and let me just say it's just mental!

Again, if you want a proper build with quality parts and want the car to feel like an entire package, then you're looking at the cost of another complete car!

As an example, I see people throwing turbo kits and using OEM brakes and OEM motor mounts and bushings. The OEM mounts and bushings are bad enough being N/A - can't imagine how bad the driving experience would be with twice the power. OEM bushings and mounts have too much deflection and movement going on just with the car being completely stock.

Either way, love the car!

"Broke-due-to-modding" crew, please check in to this thread!
If you have to make a spreadsheet to justify mods...you probably shouldn't be modding....

If you go into debt to build your "auto dream" you are an idiot.

My cars/mods are rewards for my hard work, I don't work hard to make minimum monthly payments....
