Exhaust Options

New BRZ owner seeking exhaust advice for future upgrades.
I'm looking at the nameless axelback exhaust currently. Looking for a nice subie rumble that isn't too loud, so the 5" muffler option sounds nice. However, I've been informed that since I want to turbo it eventually, i shouldn't have mufflers over 3.5". So, my question is: do I go with the Nameless "delete", have a custom made exhaust that is relatively close, if not directly modified nameless, or look at a different exhaust entirely?

I also am looking at Tomei catless headers aswell

Thank you to all that respond

Don't do cables headers and muffler delete unless you want your car to be incredibly loud. My suggestion is to go on YouTube and find sound clips of cars with uel headers and various cat backs to find one you like. I wouldn't buy headers unless you plan on reselling them or use a kit that let's you use them.

Try going through the build pages/car journals to see what works for FI cars.

Do as much "research" as you can on exhausts and their compatibility for certain kits. You can start with the axleback first or even a catback and see where you would go from there. Your vision of your car may change with the more you learn.

Some kits even use the stock manifold or even a different one from what you're already looking into.

Depends on the rest of your exhaust. Here is my exhaust journey. First was dual cat gut and stock exhaust. It was loud but not too for my taste, no drone. 2nd step was AVO turbo this was too quiet. I did a cut and re weld on the exhaust to eliminate mufflers. Back to loud but not bad, no drone. Next step was full 3 nameless no mufflers. This was great for the track but too loud for the street, lots of drone. Next step was 3 inch muffler names axle back. This was good on the street but wanted more for the track, no drone. Since I had 2 nameless axle backs I cut one of the mufflers out and put one of the pipes from the muffler less on with an exhaust valve. Now the best of both worlds. 1, don’t piss of the neighborhood at 5AM when I am goring to work and when open it is perfect for the track or afternoon drive.

Yeah, the car sounds pretty good stock.

I spend my sound money on my stereo. Its actually worth almost what my car is now, and I have a record player I will put up against any DAC on the planet.

Do not do Nameless + Tomei. I had this setup before and it was pretty damn loud and was tiring on longer drives. Start with your headers first and work your way back. Catless headers add alot of noise. Honestly if your going turbo, why waste money on headers your going to need to sell/replace. Without a tune headers are useless and just make more noise.
