I made a thread back in 2013 asking for an option to convert my AT to a MT. LOL! Young and dumb.

7 years and 50k miles later, loving my AT.

I think, just in my opinion, that a car like the FRS/86/BRZ will always be more fun and engaging to drive with a manual over an automatic. Now on something like an Accord Sport for instance, I don’t think it transforms the car. It will always be a large sedan. The connected feeling with my car is amazing, and the auto would ruin that. I 100% understand why people choose the auto option for the twins, or any other car. It sucks to drive a manual in heavy traffic, which is what most people face on the daily commute. But the 86/BRZ are at their best with a manual, and I’m still a little surprised that an auto was ever offered. Subaru has traditionally gone with manual only in the WRX STI, and for many years the WRX also. (It’s a travesty they offer the WRX with a CVT, that is wrong on so many levels)

What makes a clutch improve the feel or “transform the car” in an 86 but not an accord?
Accord is faster with a better power to weight ratio. Handling has really nothing to do with a clutch. More so on acceleration, but the 86 is slow even slower than an accord sport 2.0T.

IDK what they're on about, put 3 pedals in any car and it transforms the car. Corolla with 3 pedals? Rally car. 4 cyl Ranger with 3 pedals? Trophy truck. Smart with 3 pedals? Street legal go kart.

Some days I have to remind myself I'm an adult and it's a bad look to buy a beater econobox with ~140HP and a manual and knock the muffler off because the theatrics of the manual make it more engaging at stop lights than pressing the go button in a modern auto with 300HP.

I don't, but those things make me smile.
I also don't have a turbo.

You need to look at the intended purpose of each car. My point was a car like the 86 is designed from the ground up to be a fun drivers car. The Accord is first and foremost a good family sedan. I’m not that concerned about 0-60 times. If someone said “hey, there is a great twisty road you can drive on, what do you want to drive, a MT 86 or Accord?” Give me the 86 please!!
I’m just happy that Honda sells cars with a manual transmission at all. In the Civic TypeR and Civic Si you can only get a manual, why would Honda do that? Because they are meant to be driver focused and exciting to drive.

An MT really is only better in 2 things, which you basically just stated you aren’t doing. Faster acceleration, although this is only do better/closer gear spacing (5 useable gear instead of 4) and not inherent of an MT, and the difference is less and less the more power you make.

And clutch kicking the rear end for drifting which I don’t think many 86 owners are doing on the streets. At least i hope they aren’t.

So really the enjoyment of the 86 platform like you stated is not straight line speed but in its lightweight nimble handling in the twisties, in witch case MT or AT really doesn’t make much of a difference, MT doesn’t handle better or take turns faster. Its a momentum car and they both carry the same momentum.
