Capital Driving Club's 2016 Autocross Schedule

I usually post this on FB but realized some people don't use FB so here's the Capital Driving Club's 2016 autocross schedule and blurb:

http://capitaldrivingclub.com/schedule.php

If you've autocrossed before you know the drill...

If not, autocross is a super fun and competitive automotive sport where you attack a cone course (usually set up in a large parking lot) as quickly as you can. Autocross and specifically the CDC are VERY friendly to new drivers who are learning/haven't done this before and the FR-S/BRZ is a great platform for autocross.

Quick "FAQs" and Answers:

1) Costs $30.00 to $40.00 (you can become a member of the CDC for $30.00 a year and get the reduced price)

2) There is very little wear and tear on your car (I've done it for two years on stock tires and haven't done a darned thing except regularly scheduled maintenance)

3) Top speeds don't really exceed 50 mph

4) Your car can be both an automatic or manual transmission

5) Yes you need a helmet, no you don't have to buy one (they have loaners)

HOW TO REGISTER/WHAT TO DO

1) Follow the link above and fill out the form.

a) If you wish to become a member of the CDC, select "yes" next to the question "*Are you a CDC member?" and put the number '0' in the field "*Your CDC Car #". In the notes section at the bottom, say that you'd like to join the CDC. Otherwise select "no".

b) Tire Type: more than likely "Low Performance Tires with Treadwear Rating >= 201
Vehicle Horsepower: more than likely "151 to 200 HP"
Vehicle Weight: "2,501 to 3,000 lbs"

c) You do not need to select "Optional Classes"

2) Make sure your car isn't broken or anything and try to clean it out before autocross (as you have to take out all loose items etc. at the event)

3) Bring cash (as they only take cash) and I strongly recommend comfortable clothing based on weather and being outside, and bringing a camp chair and a water bottle or two (events go approx 8-9am until 3-4pm). They also serve hot dogs and snacks (again cash only).

4) HAVE FUN!

Please let me know if you have any questions and you may click on the following link for more information about autocross and the CDC:

http://capitaldrivingclub.com/FAQautocross.html

I do not represent or endorse the CDC in any official capacity. This is purely a recreational post as I really enjoy autocrossing with them.

Nope! Haven't been to one myself, but @JakeRogue was telling me that CDC is super new person friendly, and if you feel like you'd like tips, members are more than willing to allow you to ride with them and/or ride with you to help you better yourself.

Seems very interesting... probably no point coming with my 10-year old AT Corolla , but when I buy myself something better, maybe I'll give it a try.

Take it. You will be surprised how much fun you can have in any POS car

I love thrashing my accord on snow tires around on/off ramps. I even can get some lift off oversteer with the bigger rear bar if I push it hard enough

Drove by Harry Grove Stadium and saw a handful of BRZs lining up to start. Too bad I wasn't driving the FR-S since I was coming home after a trip to Costco with my family. Would've love to stop in, but cones were blocking the entrance.

Harry Grove we park on the other side of the ball field to stage our cars then whip around the block to where you saw us actually driving. Spectating is always encouraged!

Bring it! Autocrossing doesn't need to be done in a good car. Sure a sports car will perform better, but autocross is about driving, and you'll learn a lot too! An automatic Pontiac G6 was at our event today, not exactly an "ideal" platform, but this guy was having fun & learning a lot about car control. That's what is about!

Looks like something for me. Frankly, I am not so much into cars themselves, I'm mildly interested in their inner working and completely not interested in fiddling myself with all these greasy nuts and bolts, but I do like driving .

Maybe I'll drop by one day for an hour or so to watch and decide if I'd like to try.

Pity you're not on next weekend, as I probably will be driving to Md for some karting at Jessup, so I could drop by on my way back or something. But maybe
another time.
