Because the OP did not turn on us! It could have gone in a radically different direction.

What EVER are you talking about .....??

I remember, back in the 60s, I was a new "butter bar" assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry (mechanized). Yes sir, I was an OFFICER.

Yep, TO&E (Table of Organization and Equipment) called for 33 officers. I was the 7th officer assigned and the junior officer.

What did that mean? That meant by day I was a range officer and by night I was either brigade or battalion duty officer. Oh yes, in between I was a platoon leader and battalion motor officer. Yep, I was an OFFICER fer sure .....

Being enlisted was cool until I became a Master Bombardier, and then my sergeants major expected a whole lot more out of me. (read: doing sergeant jobs, without the pay)

But, running around trying to get things done while the people who are qualified to do the jobs smoke and joke wasn't fun.

I am sure that you could manage for one night a week and one weekend a quarter.

You do know it was a full time job for me for around 2.5 years, yeah? Class B contracts were cool.

Long story short, a most daily driven vehicle that I can take to the track for some fun. (Yes I know it handles well already at the track, but everyone loves that acceleration)
This is the car you want:

A boosted 86 making significantly more power than the off the shelf kits (all well under 300 whp) will never be as reliable as a nearly stock Corvette. If you care more about having fun behind the wheel than how others perceive you it's pretty clear to me what you want is out there waiting for you pre-built. If you want a project car than by all means an 86 is a great thing to build up, but so is a Miata or E30/E36 or FC RX7 or mk3 Supra or 300ZX or WRX or fox Mustang or 3G Camaro or any number of FWD hatches for thousands of dollars less initial buy in cost, then you can have an affordable (and possibly just as fun) DD and get really nuts with the project.

hmm, think folks who feel the need to start a thread asking the best way they can triple the power of the twins need to be first approved to do so by posting a video of themselves utilizing the measly 170 whp and cornering abilities at the car's limits

Or should maybe read FI section instead of making a thread in general.
