The aftermarket lady did a spiel about how I should go for the camera instead of sensors because it'll look better on a sportscar like this etc.
I was assured that it wouldn't be an aftermarket product, it'll be a well-integrated genuine camera.

On the contract it even says "genuine replacement camera".

For $595 this is what I got:

Obviously I was quite disappointed. If I knew it was going to be this I would've opted for sensors or most likely nothing at all.
It's a tiny car and the purpose was to stop car borrowers from scratching my car in our tiny car park, which is what happened to my last car.

Called up the dealer and was told that this is as genuine as it gets and there's no other options.

Now, I'm pretty sure most of you wouldn't be happy with this job so what would you do in this situation?
I also put down to have the reverse camera installed aswell.. if its gonna be a dodgy job like this, would I still be able to cancel mine seeing as though delivery for my car is in October?
Also, which dealer?

Could it be that the dealer did a dodgy installation? I would have thought they would cut a small hole to insert the camera in so that it's less obvious. Like this photo no?

What exactly is a "genuine replacement camera"? Replacement for what?
If it is only stuck on with double sided tape, they should be able to undo what they did. Perhaps they stuck it on to avoid having to cut a hole in the bottom of the rear garnish to recess the camera... downside is it sticks out, upside is it's removable leaving no marks... hopefully...

I'm guessing the work was farmed out to their normal supplier for supply and install... unlikely the dealer fits these themselves.
Can they tell you if there is an existing harness already in the car or did they have to run the cables all the way through?

She will be checking with her manager on what to do next... hope it's a good outcome for you.

I checked it out today and its not one of those reverse cameras that fold in and pop out. It is exactly that rear camera though.

More like you "genuinely" just got scammed by your dealer .
Go to them and start a bitch storm, take them to hell and back… I'm sure they will work something out for you .
If not the BBB and reviews are always there to trash them.

Pfft

Today I went to the dealer where I ordered my 86 and questioned them about how they will install my camera, the salesman showed me an aurion with it installed.. It's exactly like this photo, it shouldn't be sticking out as much as op's installation

I would like to know, if we take a 86 to a Subaru dealer to get their camera fitted, will that work?
