Yes, the wheels will fit. However the brakes are not a direct bolt us as far as I know. If you're looking to plop some 2022 wheels on a first gen PP, they should bolt right on. Picture source: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show....php?p=3489094

2022 GR86 Base (17" wheels) with PP Brembos installed.
From the owner: "No spacer used. It fits and is probably OK for street. Too tight for track."

I just checked and the top post in this thread has over 150 entries, that's incredible!
When I was starting, the largest list I've seen was ~10x smaller... Thanks everyone for your contributions, and please keep them coming!

The 17x9" ET35 is certainly the easier fitment between the two, as it really just requires a little negative camber to prevent any rubbing (camber spec is determined by ride height, tire size/model). This fitment also offers quite a bit more inner clearance to the suspension, which means it clears the PP/TRD Sachs struts and a wide variety of aftermarket coilovers without the need for spacers. This fitment also has no problem clearing the front tire rods at full lock. The 17x9.5" ET40 is really engineered for more hardcore track enthusiasts that want to maximize tire sidewall support for wider compounds. The fitment requires more attention to detail, but yields fantastic results with the proper supporting mods. More aggressive camber specifications are going to be required to prevent rubbing the fenders under suspension compression, but with track oriented wide wheel & tire fitments like this it is always still possible to scrub the inner plastic fender liners. This wider fitment will sit ~11mm closer to the suspension in comparison to the 17x9" ET35, so aftermarket coilovers with a slim silhouette are a requirement. Furthermore, the wheel can make contact with your front tie rods at full lock. - Ryan

Enkei TFR 17x9 +45 with 12mm spacer. This is with Brembo BM4, which is much wider than a PP caliper. You can probably run with a much smaller spacer, like 5mm, but it would be very sunk in.
