The guy you are mentioning wasn't against the changes. He agreed that these changes happened. The only argument was that they happened earlier. I was saying at that time that they happened sometime during 2014 and the reality was that they happened March 2013. It was my mistake and at the end everything was clarrified and everyone was happy. That's all.

Anything else?

Why is it whenever a bunch of people try to stress their point it is a "flame war" or they are "haters"?

I didn't say mid model (assuming you mean model life cycle) changes. I said mid model-year changes. In other words a change made in the middle of a given model year. I wasn't referring to a model refresh.

Anyway, as an example 2006 Caymans with early build dates share brake components with the 996 911. 2006 Caymans with later build dates (and really all dates later as well) share brake components with the 997 911.

Shit's ridiculous

Sounds a bit inconvenient when parts shopping. Is there much of a price difference between the changes?

....And even if you do use your VIN for verification you will still find some incompatibilities, and your ordered part wont work. I have to admit, buying parts for my previous P-cars is usually less fun, and more work than other project vehicles.

But it is still fun.

I miss my old cars.

Me - "I need some exhaust valves for a 1958 Chev six cylinder please"

Parts Guy looks in book - "Ah yes here they are. Fits all 1948 through 1967 engines. That will be $12 please"

I never bothered checking, but it's minimal if anything I'd guess.

HAH!

Yeah it's kinda like that for a lot of stuff on the Integra. Honda cars of the 90s are like Legos.

although, as part of that grand bargain we arguably are in the renaissance of engine technology to date: 100 hp/liter isn't a crazy thing, my old 95 mustang gt and my new 15 brz roughly have the same 1/4 mile performance with half the cylinders - and what companies are doing with turbochargers in crazy - those old turboed cars all had that lag and crazy boost sensation and now they can make a small turboed 4 cyl pull like an an 8. (even if im not the hugest fan of turbos, hey... progress i suppose..)

Oh I will take any engine built after about 1990 to my old stuff any day. I just miss the commonality of parts. Just the ability to tune a computer to take advantage of mods alone makes it all worth it. Ten minutes to input some files vs 6+ hours to adjust timing, dwell, carburetors, etc. etc. every time you swap a header or the humidity or temperature outside changes is a pretty good deal.

Domestic performance engines are currently at the top of their game.

Japanese performance engines were at their peak in the early 90s-early 00s. They're not as overbuilt anymore and their use of top shelf parts has declined since.

Modern European performance engines..maintenance? Run, run far away.
