Cusco engine mounts slight burning smell?
Car: MY2023 BRZ. Otherwise stock engine/exhaust. Around 900 miles on the car. Installed a couple hundred miles ago; I swapped the factory heat shields over as well.
Was curious if anyone else experienced a slight rubber burning smell after installing the Cusco engine mounts? I've done a couple 1hr+ road trips at speed hoping that would burn off whatever was on them from manufacturing but I still get a faint smell of hot/burning rubber after driving at speed for a while and then stopping. It definitely started after installing these and isn't other stuff cooking off as that was gone before installing. I presume it's due to living right next to the exhaust manifold and getting trapped in that area with heat/heat shields/etc and baking. Can tell it's from this area from popping hood right after driving and the smell is coming from the lower engine bay. There's no smoke or anything, just smell. Love the mounts otherwise and NVH is nowhere near as bad as what I heard, but considering just swapping back to stock for the time being to get rid of it. Don't mind burning rubber smells for the right reasons, but this is extremely distracting to get slight smells at red lights/whatever. |

I thought these didn't have any rubber in them?

They do have rubber inside. You can see it in this picture where the bolt runs through. The space between the two bolts and the outside cylindrical parts is rubber.

Oh I see. You may want to give the Perrin mounts a try then. I've been daily driving on them for 3-4 years now and no burning smell or any other issues. I have the updated ones btw
