I'm pretty sure that the mini cooper is the best fwd handling car right now.

^Yeah Cooper was on my mind when writing that but I dunno man I think the MS3 has more power, costs less, etc. I've driven both spiritedly on public roads and enjoyed the Mazda more. Felt low-slung like a race c0ckpit and begged to be pushed and handled.

A quick search from Grassroots Motorsports "The Hardcore Sports Car Magazine"
Mazdaspeed3 Gen1 > MS3 Gen2 > MINI S Turbo > MINI S S/C > Mazda3 Gen2 2.5 > Mazda3 Gen1 2.3 > Mazda3 2.0 > MINI N/A

and AskMen prefers the MS3 in a comparo of the previous gens.

Scion is using an American driver to cater to the American public...they're not trying to win over the japanese with the FR-S. Makes much more sense to do it this way. It's all about marketing...most of the American public has no clue who immamura or kazama are...they can relate much better to a Japanese American who speaks fluent english regardless of how "polished" he is.

Nice job dropping names to show off how much you "know" about the japanese drifting scene though...I guess you got that point across at least

Ok, so you're looking at subjective opinions of compact, FWD cars.

Personally, I haven't been impressed with the MS3. Sure, it's quite fast, and in a straight line, faster than pretty much all other cars in this category (only in the U.S.; Europe has other hot hatches which look extremely appealing and can outperform the MS3). But golly, the torque steer. And I can't help but think that the car is simply unable to put down that power effectively.

For a good balance of usable power and performance, look no further than the VW GTI. A Mini Cooper JCW isn't too bad either, but it also suffers from extraordinary torque steer.

Anyway, we are way

The Mazda is crap compared to the Megane, the Focus RS or even a VW GTI. Scirocco R and Leon Cupra R are also better.

Sadly, in the U.S. we don't get the Focus RS, nor the Scirocco, nor any cars from Renault or Seat.

this car looks great on the wet pavement! doesnt get all figgity and it is super well composed! gotta say though when a guy makes this look so easy just about everybody who buys one and has their head up their butt is going to try this. lets just see were going to say a lot of "omg i crashed my frs" threads :P

and the front angled headrest doesnt seem to be bothering him for all those who've been complaining about it. :P
